Just been reading an article about Facebook on whether it's right/wrong you should "friend" your child, or accept a parent as a "friend".
I don't have a facebook account & have no interest in doing so, but I asked my daughter, if I had an account would she add me & she said no & she wouldn't want me adding her, we have an excellent father/mother/daughter relationship with her outside of the internet & we talk//discuss everything.I't doesn't upset me she wouldn't want me on hers.
Most of my family have facebook & are all "friends" & they keep telling me I need one to know what is going on in the family, but I flatly refuse to have one.I think they have forgotten there are things called telephones.
My mates wife posts everything from what they having for tea to telling everyone she has just hoovered the house or they have just had a row!!!
I just find it bizzare that to some people this is the only form of contact they have with the outside world !!!

personally, i wouldnt want my kids seeing my facebook chatter..

now my kids are 13, 11, 9 (have a 5, 4, and 3 year old too lol) but i have thier passwords for thier facebook accounts and check them weekly.

they are not allowed a facebook account without me having the password. simple.

Myself and my 12 year old are on each others friends list on FB but she tends to play the games more than anything else and I don't really do much on there myself. I do check her FB regularly though but have never come across anything I would be worried about.

Two of them aren't allowed a facebook account at all.

On the question, I've got several Aunties, Uncles and most of my cousins as friends on Facebook, doesn't bother me.

I had it and then deleted my account about a year ago.
Don't miss all the gossip and nonsense on it.
Its for young people to post drunken pouty pictures on and older people to write boring statuses.
Who wants to know that Sharon from accounts has wrapped all her pressies and is now having a well deserved Baileys!

Kids under 13 are using Facebook because parents like you who know they are on there underage are still allowing them to access it. If you, and other parents stopped your underage children, then there would be a lot less.
#11
you are right, ofcourse there would be less using it if parents stopped thier kids using it.. kinda makes sense that comment..

I think the kid in the picture is too young to be playing computer games too, should be outside breaking into cars.

So you are adding to the problem. Irresponsible parenting, thinking everyone else is doing it so it doesn't matter what i do.
#16
yes you are right.

I don't fully understand the telephone argument. Before the advent of the telephone then people communicated by letter. Before people learned to read and write the didn't communicate unless within talking distance. Facebook (or the internet in general) is just the next extension: letter -> telephone -> internet.

As to the question. I don't have any of my family on facebook. I like to keep my friends and family well separated. There is also very little need fro my mother to be utterly appalled by my gutter mouth.

too late, that was last week

Me and the wife have facebook accounts and have most of our family on it. She uses it more than me, but mostly just to update friends and family that we can't see on a regular basis on whats going on in our lives.

Can't stand people who update on the most mundane goings on.

The most annoying one is:

Person X "is sad"
Person Y "wots wrong??"
Person X "don't wanna talk about it"

Does my head in.

I dont bother with FB but OH does and he added our daughter and some of her friends, she now realises what a big mistake that was, he's forever saying "did you know what charlie did at the weekend" she's 17 so hopefully wise enough to not put anything to incriminating on there. She always comes to me with any juicy gossip anyway ;)

Mum had a Facebook account before me and she was the one who got me to join. I am friends with family members, partly I have nothing to hide, and its good for keeping in touch with family we don't often speak to. Main reason I use Facebook is to see photos of family members kids, as few live in other parts of the country and so we don't see them very often.

Saying that, seen my cousins post a few things that I just ignore :) at 16 and 18 (now) they should remember who they befriend :P

If you have something you don't want your parents/family knowing then maybe there is a reason for that and either you shouldn't of done it, or you shouldn't be going round telling everyone at least.

Well, enough from me :P bit of a long post

My boy rejected me :|

most of the my friends on facebook are actually family members, it's an easy way to keep in contact without having to phone, i have a large family, i'm the youngest of 10, and they are all over the world.

ive got my sister and my two older cousins as friends, my wee bro, wee cuz, my aunt and my dad all got their friend requests rejected X) dont really want them seeing what i get up to haha
