Facebook - who else is sick of it?

It's a great concept and useful for some things but...

Lately I have been hit with a load of extra friends requests mostly through work connections and what an insight into their thinking... besides some that are happy to swear away and think we are amused by it, others that post jokes and comments that would cost them their jobs, others are broadcasting their daily horoscopes, what they did in Farmville, what their young kids cr*ppily achieved at school, how many they ate of their 5 a day via an i-phone app, and some prolific updaters on *their* lives...they feel rough today, they are on the way home, what they ate, can't wait to go out later... jeez, man these are adults in responsible jobs, not the school playground... really as if we are interested? Maybe some of you are as there seem to be replies... If someone had an interesting life... 'just made it up Everest', 'another minute and will be in earth orbit', ' only 50 turned up for the orgy, not the 70 expected' I could understand it... but ' got a squeeze another out, all that Christmas food'...

Am I getting old or is anyone else sick of other peoples boring, tedious rubbish being imposed on them as if they truly think we are interested??? :):) Guess I could filter them and be Billy no mates...

It was ok for two years, but seem to have been hit with a couple of friend requests and then a load more seeing me through them all tagging on to people they know etc. (people I knew as well) I have some good friends on there, but there seems a right load of rubbish coming through lately... sometimes you don't realise all the facets of people until you see some of this rubbish.

I've been thinking this for the last few month, its not what it used to be too overpopulated and too much crap, plus it gets so political...who's deleted who, who has the most drinks, its like being back at school, plus you see everyone you've spent 15 yr trying to forget.

Ive been wondering if i have the will power to delete it

Interestingly enough I don;t get this as I only have real friends on FB and not randoms. Take it for what it is or deactivate your account. It isn't a popularity contest. Set up your privacy settings so only friends can interact with you (_;)

I find it amusing to laugh at some of the failures I went to school with and their hopeless lives.

You sound like a nice person .. .

completely agree with choc1969

i do use facebook, only have "real friends" on there and have my privacy setting on. i turned off all notifications to the game requests etc, as im not interested. but i find it useful to communicate quickly and when i want to. :p

how can anyone be sick of something that isnt mandatory?
#13
it can be useful but so often it seems to be little more than a bragging contest and makes me totally fed up with the planet i live on and how shallow we all appear to be becoming. pass me the paracetamol and razor blades, i dont have enough 'friends' ;)

I don't mind people sharing things they are proud of - it's the constant moaning and self pity that is annoying, but yeah, if it annoys you that much, don't use it!

I think it's sad, chavvy and all a bit indicative of the "Jeremy Kyle" society we have to put up with.

When I'm in the pub, having actual conversations with actual people (call me old-fashioned but I find this a much more enjoyable and easier way to communicate), it makes me cringe when I hear someone say "so-and-so have put it on their facebook so it must be true!".

Even worse is when somebody asks me if I have/use facebook and when I reply no, they frown and ask why not.

I think it's all a bit pointless to be honest.

Chatrooms and forums like this I can see the point in, but why anyone thinks that other people are so interested in their life that they want to read all about it on some fad of a website is beyond me.

Same goes for twitter and all the others.

Think KaraokeColins post was sort of what i was trying to say in my original post... :p

i understand where your all coming from saying its not mandatory and everything, which is true. But i get annoyed at most of the people as well, but then why should i have to delete it and lose out? I dont post much on it but i use it to stay in contact with old/new friends and i like it so i can keep hold of photos from events and nights out.

Face book is great for people with no legs, The rest of us go out and see people,

I think facebook is excellent. Problems mentioned in the OP really come about through adding and accepting friends regardless of personal connection. Choose your Facebook friends carefully and not use it as popularity contest and you'll be fine.

Did farcebook for about a month, doesn't do it for me, I prefer the real thing :) The amount of crap I hear people falling out over because someone's plastered all their shiz over facebook is incredulous!

I much rather posting all my biz up on here to give my imaginary friends something to read hehehe :p

I started using Facebook to keep in touch with my Family in Canada. Plus they get to see my childrens pictures, they can see them grow from over the other side of the world.

But I am now bombarded with game requests from other people I added. I really need to start sorting my friends out.

I find it very boring compared to how it used to be, But I would never deactivate my account as its my only FREE way of communication with my canadian family.
#27
I deactivated my account today - sick of bragging off some people on there

I use facebook in moderation, moved 60miles from where I grew up and like to keep in touch with my friends and family who are all back there. You may say that's what a phone is for but I don't actually want or like to talk to anyone, just be kept up to date on what's happening back home, bit like sitting in the pub and listening to what they say and just say something when you have something to say sort of thing (if that makes any sense).

My stepdaughter on the other hand has her whole life revolving around it, 800 and odd friends, most she has never spoken to or even met, inane drivel and garbage galore.... but each to their own.

Definitely keep work separate from my private life and anything work related (professional) goes via LinkedIn

I stopped using facebook early last year, the novelty wore off. It was ok for a few months then I just deactivated my account.

Everyone else I know uses it, but I dont see the point anymore. I like my privacy.

All privacy settings on max and even some mates are on full privacy block so all they can do is message me. Hate my wife doing her updates once a week. In fact i'm going to have a word at how annoying it is...on facebook.

You're going to chat with your wife on Facebook at how annoying her status updates are?? Instead of Facebook chat why not turn around and talk face to face?

Facebook is really tedious, I have a friend who constantly rants, swears or just puts GRRRRRR......... for the attention. Its a goldmine for attention seekers!
#35
i think the people who moan and bitch about facebook are usualy the ones who are boring and have no friends :p
#36
All I do in facebook is change profile pic when i'm bored and soon after someone will post something like 'long time no see' and i'll reply 'yeah i dont use FB a lot these days' and .............. REPEAT X)
#37
removed mine months ago.....boring as hell and "kids" giving it "the biggun" and fronting up to each other....bit like [email protected]!! oO
#38
I have never had a facebook account. People tell me I'm missing out but I don't see it. Just watched the social network though and wish I had invented it!!
#39
There are people who have had quite serious accidents and rather than call for an ambulance their first instinct is to post photo's of their injury on facebook, presumably for the attention?
#40
facebook has its uses, but one really needs special tools to tame the savage beast, its just TMI (too much information). i use a browser addon called fb purity, to filter out a lot of the junk and nonsense, such as all the quiz and game updates etc
