Morning Ladies & Gents, I've decided to try fake tan for the first time, any recommendations? Tips? I was thinking of buying a wash off one to test it out first?

Why is this aimed at the ladies? Lol

anyway .... It would factor on a lot of things like your skin tone and hair colour, if you going out I wouldn't use it at all if you have never used it before as it might be abit of a shock, There are manu brands out there but the best 2 by far are St Tropez and Fake Bake, have a play on your legs and then see which you like and suits you x

Thats what i'm worried about.... since i'm really pale.

Ripper: Just don't know any men that use fake tan, but edited title

I was thinking of trying that fake bake wash off light tan.... As I said above i'm really pale with brunette, I tan well when I go abroad/ if we have good weather I'm just fed up of looking pale until that happens

Stupid question but do you put it on your face?

Fake bake suits brunnettes better, yes it does go on your face but just a light covering. Get a Fake Bake airbrush can and mit then apply over each part of the body and gently rub with the MIT to ensure no steaks then just apply a spray to the mit and rub onto the face.

If you was nearby I could have gave you a spraytan lol

I'm also straight btw lol

Exfoliate first.

You can often get a spray tan - done by hand not machine cheap at salons. If this is your first time I would do that first as you don't tend to get streaks.

Exfoliate before you go and choose a day when you have nothing planned for the next 12 hours minimum. Tell the therapist that you want the lightest available tan - they can use different colours and flows for a spray tan.
Warning you will be very dark when first done and until you shower. DO NOT apply make up, creams or shower for at least 12 hours. Then once you shower you will be left with a golden colour. Moisturise frequently or you will start to shed skin and colour and go a bit patchy. DO NOT exfoliate after tan ntil you are ready for the tan to come off, then exfoliate and moisurise frequently.

Oh and the wash off ones don't give a true colour to proper fake bakes. If you decide to do it your self then try your legs first as can be hidden. Or use one of the Johnsons summer skins in light to med and build up daily.

i dont put tan on to impress any bloke, i do it coz i want to :)

It looks stupid and no guy actually thinks it looks good, no idea why women think we like it, it's a joke.

This is very stereotypical. Yeah it looks stupid if you wear it like Jordon but a subtle fake bake such as OP is wanting looks fab, is slimming and makes you feel good about your self. For your self not men!!

I am very pale
BLUE in fact lol
I always use St Tropez Mousse and it looks very natural and have never really had a bad experience.Sometimes my hands can be less than perfect but you tend to be washing hands all time anyway.
If you just make sure you exfoliate and use moisturisers on knees, elbows, hands etc.I also moisturise at underarm area where bra rubs and inside arms
There used to be tips to application on St Tropez website
If you do buy it there are much cheaper options using Ebay shops oh and use the application mitt for more even coverage
Good luck

My suggestion.... Don't. It's tacky, cheap and ugly.

Women get all defensive about it though because they think they look great, or want to think they do - While everyone else is laughing at them...

Natural skin colour is the way to go.

Why does it make you feel good about yourself though? Is it because it makes you look good? And why is it that you'd want to look good?

Not being funny (well, I am - a bit) but we all want people to think we look ok...and although I wouldn't consider myself a vain person, I do always check my hair in the loo mirror etc...

But c'mon - just admit you're only doing it 'for yourself' for the benefit of others...there's nothing wrong with it!

(btw, I also vote don't do it...genuine colour is far more appealing)

I had a St Tropez fake tan done last year the day before we went on holiday. After the beautican had put it on I was shocked because it looked as if I had been rolling round in mud and it looked streaky, patchy and awful. I nearly cried because I thought I wouldn't be able to go on the beach it looked so bad. But after a couple of hours you have to wash it off and it was great! Very even, good colour and no streaks. For the first few days I looked tanned and then a real tan had taken over. Definitely to be recommended, just keep calm for the first few hours!
