Fallout 3 question "How to get Dogmeat"?

Guys, I have been playing Falout 3 for ages, I have completed the initial game and done the Anchorage and currently playing Broken Still and Point Lookout.

One thing that I never bothered to do was to look out for the dog "Dogmeat".

But I noticed that when you get to level 22 you can get a Perk which allows you to get Dogmeat back even if he dies.

The thing is I never had Dogmeat so I did some research and I could not find him at all in the Scrapyard.

One thing which is weird is that Dogmeat is in front of Vault 101 but I can not talk to him, I do get the option to talk to Dogmeat, but I get nothing. I can not get him to follow me, netiher I can not kill him. If I attack him he will not attack me but he does attack my follower.

I wonder whether I have to do something else o whether my game is bugged.

I do remember early in the game seen a dog (at the time did not know it was dogmeat) in the scarpyard and I think I tried to kill him but he will not die, In those early stages I had to go away from there because he almost kill me. I thought that you could only get dogmeat if you had the Animal perks which I know now that is not true.

Now the question is whether I can get Dogmeat at all now?

Any ideas?

Any way I can get Dogmeat to move from where he is now in front of Vault 101 and go to the srapyard?

I am really annoyed that I can not get it.

Thanks in advance for the help

If you tried to kill him when you met him, maybe youve blown your chances, it seems odd hes waiting at vault 101, cause thats where he goes when you tell him to scarper (if your in a fight and hell get hurt)

I hope that's not true. I know some other main NPC even if you attack them or try to kill them they will still talk to you and give you quests or whatever, so hopefully is not.

There is no way I am starting again just to get Dogmeat :x. I rather kill him but I can not even do that :w00t:

yeah he appears when u exit the vault i belive, he will help you, by killing a guy.
He will then run off and you can go find him at the scarp yard, where he will be attacked by some dudes.

when u helped him out he will then follow you..

Your prob have to re-start the game tbh.. but the dog isnt that great.
He always gets stuck behind trees and gets injured easily.

mine died like an hour after i got him - lol.

Fallout 3 = Epic Game btw.

Yep, if you hurt him during the scrapyard fight before you recruit him you're SOL from what I believe. Puppies! apparently will allow you to kill him and then he'll respawn so you could try that (I recommend a Fatman, make it fast and painless )

edit: ha, just looked up Dogmeat on the fallout wiki, and it says:
It seems that after downloading the add-on Broken Steel, Dogmeat levels with the player. Now, Dogmeat can be extremely powerful, and able to fight solo against very strong creatures at higher levels such as Deathclaws and Super Mutant Behemoths. At level 20 he can survive a direct Fat Man blast. (Confirmed on 360 and PC)

I've just started my second playthrough (bad karma time) and Dogmeat was the first objective. Makes the earlygame much easier, no longer will I be killed by looking at a super mutant..

If the player reaches the Scrapyard and does not enter it, or somehow manages to pass by and trigger the event without speaking to Dogmeat, it is still possible to encounter him later in a random encounter. He will sometimes come to your aid when you are facing overwhelming odds, such as a larger group of Talon Company Mercs in the wasteland, or the [Enclave], such as at the Mobile Base Crawler. If during your travels you see the words "Dogmeat is unconscious" appear at the top of the screen, it means he is nearby somewhere and is likely being attacked. Dogmeat cannot die before you have recruited him.

Shooting Dogmeat in the initial encounter without talking to him will make it impossible for the player to recruit him. He will appear outside Vault 101, but cannot be engaged in dialogue.
He'll turn up eventually. Unless you get the "Dogmeat has died" message,

Thanks for the info guys.

Well I think that's what happen to me, I do remember when I had the fight with dogmeat he will not die. He was unconcious and then he will attack me again so I had to leave the scrapyard.

Now I can not find him in the scarpyard at all he is in front of Vault 101 and he does not attack me at all only my fellower if I attack him.

I wonder whether I should try to get attacked around the Vault 101 area but being a level 22 around there is like being god nothing can kill you. I will try to run around and get some raiders to attack me near dogmeat but I am not sure if there are any around there. I think I am stuck :x

If I get the animal perk do you think that might help ? The one that says animals will come to aid you.

It's so frustranting Dogmeat is there but is not good to me at all :x :x
