For family entertainment definitely the wii. Games like family trainer extreme, wii fit and wii sports resort are all multi player activity games that the family can enjoy.

thats what im thinking and surely its just down to the games that will satisfy each child, as 1 is 7 and the other 16 (my son has yet to justify why the x-box)

get an xbox. The wii is a gimmick in my opinion, i have an xbox and a wii. The wii lies dormant most of the time...even when friends or family play we just play 4 player games on the xbox such as scene it or arcade games.

I have 2 younger cousins who also have a wii and after about 6 months it is now packed away in its box

Your 16 year old will probably want his own at some point as the games he will want to play will be no good for the younger ones,

Depends on the age category and the state of mind of the people in question. If you want to kill each other xbox. If you like to challange each other wii.

My 7 yr old loves some of the older boys games. But you will find except for the 'xbox/ps3' exclusive games, most games come out for the wii too. Whereas with the wii you get the mario/nintendo style games as an addition, like mariokart (a definite must)

You can also go online with the wii (edit: in a similar way to xbox and ps3  )

wii - best for family

360 - adolescents

ps3 - adults

With project natal coming soon to the xbox (being able to play games without a controller - just by using a camera add on) the XBOX will likely match the wii for games like wii fit etc by end of next year.

However, mario games are great fun! :)

Tough choice...

i prefer the x box..more game choice..its what my 7 year old spends most time on

she plays the wii occasionally but the novelty wore off quick

only my OH plays the ps3....no good kids games imo

the problem I have is the ages, i know little one would enjoy wii but eldest want x-box.

tbh I dont know anyone with little ones who have an x-box so thank you jellybaby, yrs is same age

Having owned all 3 consoles I would go for the 360. The Wii will be great fun for the first few weeks, especially over Xmas, but novelty wears off very quickly, even for younger kids. PS3 has Singstar, Buzz etc which are good family games but is the most expensive and doesn't have the back catalogue of games. The 360 is the cheapest to pick up, has the biggest back catalogue of games, meaning you can pick up some older games very cheaply. It also has a good mix of games suitable for all ages. Lego games, some great (well decent) film tie ins such as Kingfu panda. My nep[hew is 6 and loves playing on his 11 year old brothers 360.

360 for adolescents and PS3 for adults? What a silly comment (mostly the same games on both consoles). Both great for adults and adolescents but for what the OP wants I would suggest an Elite with a couple of games for £200.

As for natal, I have been reading that the RRP could be in the region of £150 plus so might not be that viable for many people unless it gets a lot of software support.

I know that and would love to but just cant justify buying 2, he has a ps2 (dont laugh) in his room and dont want to replace that thats why im going for 1 for all

I know it is. Cod World at war was the best on this console playability on line was fun as hell.:)

If you want an all round console for the adults as well wii.

But if you want the kids all round age machine xbox.

As Csiman says.

Xbox is the cheaper machine all round.

I would say the wii is great fun for all ages, ours gets used all the time and novelty has not been lost after 2 yrs ;-)

It really is your decision though, maybe talk to the kids and all have a vote?

I had all 3 but once i'd played the 360 exclusives, then it had to be sold cos I want my console to be an all round media server rather than just for games and the ps3 had a far better lineup for 2009/10 than the 360.

OP might be better off with a 360 if just for games due to back catalogue but cant say there is any price difference these days like for like between a ps3 or a 360.

Yep +1, my kids have not lost interest after 2 odd years of having the wii. In fact most of the new xmas presents are more games

Have to agree with you. But atm I more of a 360 kinda guy just because I've grown attached to the better controller. Ps3 feels to small now.:)

dont say that, my 7 year old will definitley want it then, she's really into the government. Last night she asked me how to spell Gordon, I asked why and she said she wanted to write to Gordon Brown to ask him to make the BBC hurry up and put Dr Who back on, she's is quite perturbed by the fact he is 'sat on his bum doing nothing' (her words) :o
