FAO Half price SKY customers from Nov/Dec last year

Hi,

I realise that this is a very specific post but I hope at least some of you will find it useful. I was one of those lucky enough to benefit from Sky's half price deal last Nov/Dec. I have just called them to give my notice to cancel at which point they offered another 6 months half price.

I realise it may have been luck, however the operator stated that she could see that I had received 12 months half price and that they were able to offer another 6 months half price with no further contract commitment if I was willing to stay. This keeps the total at £25.50 including the hd pack for all mixes, movies and sports.

Hopefully this will be useful to someone as previous posts have indicated sky were unwilling to offer anything to customers who had 12 months half price credited to their account.

difficult to vote on, because as you say, its very specific to each person.. i think it also matters how much you spend with them too
#2
Thanks for this. I'll give it a go

Have a reminder in my calendar to ring up and cancel next week.

Have you signed up for another 12 or 6 months then?

Cheers for the tip!

I also got this offer last year, rang up to cancel last week and was told i had until Feb next year, think they just put another 3 months on to lure me in :) will ring up then to cancel again.

I need to give 1 months cancellation notice in mid Jan :) these deals are always available it seems :)

I haven't signed up for any further contract. They confirmed (twice) that I am not committed to this six months and can cancel at any point either before or after the half price offer expires
#7
Thanx will give it a go when we are due to cancel.
#8
mine expires end of march so will give this a go in feb. thanks
#9
As others remind, there are no guarantees and this varies greatly, therefore this doesn't IMO qualify as a deal.

"This keeps the total at £25.50 including the hd pack for all mixes, movies and sports"

Any chance of a breakdown of cost on that because I pay £50pm for just the HD and sports 1, 2 & 3? Even at half price that would be £25!!
#12
Thanks - was just getting ready to phone, but wasn;t sure what the best tactic was to get an extended deal! But this must be worth a try.

There is a substantial improvement in picture quality with the HD but realistically is it going to stp you watching things if they are in standard definition. At £10 per month i think it is a pretty high cost. I currently have the HD pack but will be cancelling this add-on once my 12 months are up.

I also rang to downgrade last week, and this offer was on for 6 months half price Sky standard channels, I still said I wanted to lose the SKY HD package (saving £10), so I should just be paying approx £10 for normal Sky channels and the Sky+ feature, and still be able to watch standard def Sky channels & record free HD channels (ie BBC HD).
:)

No, I can't justify £10 for HD. For free its fine but I don't watch enough TV to warrant it. I also don't have the movies/sports so....

agreed,
on my old LCD TV high def was a lot better than SD as the tv made a poor job of upscaling SD channels but i bought one of the latest Samsung LED tvs last month, now the SD channels look so much closer to HD in quality and people visiting often think it is HD.

Phoned them and was offered the following
6 months half price with a 12 month contract commitment or
12 months 25% off with a 12 month contract commitment.

They advised the 6 months no contract commitment was withdrawn.

So I called their bluff and cancelled. Now in the 31 days cancellation period. Let's see if they phone within that time.

I cancelled 10 minutes ago. They offered me half price for 6 months on any package, but would not waive the £10 HD subscription and that was a deal breaker for me. I'm gonna sell my box go Freesat HD for free!

This depends, the biggest things are the size of your screen and your viewing distance, above 40" screen then yes the larger the screen the more HD comes into play but anything below 32" don't bother.
We have a 37" sony with a viewing distance of about 11ft and to be honest it's had to see much differents on full HD let alone the 720p resolotion $ky transmits.

you know there's only 2 HD channels on freesat don't you ?
You might aswel keep your sky box and watch the free HD channels on that in my opinion.

which number are people ringing?

Is there a cancellation number?

I have never had sky and always get intouch to see if they could give me any deals, but I never get anywhere. If they gave me the HD package for free, then I would have the whole lot, but no chance am I paying £10.25 a moth for a better picture. I told them this over the phone, and said that when 3D comes out I am sure it will be free, and I will sign up then. She basically said that they would integrate it therfore it wouldnt be free. I'd love to have it, but the package I want is about £55 a month, and I refuse to pay it.
#28
i wouldn't be without my skytv in all honesty. only thing that annoys me with em at the moment is the fact that i cant have anytime+

...just keep looking here and wait for that half price offers (codes). Last year they came around Christmas time and then again in March. Using that your 55 pound package should come crashing down to around 27 pounds per month for the whole year.....keep an eye on HUKD :-))

I too was lucky enough to get the deal last year. I was also lucky enough to move house and get it again last month. Another 12 months with all channels, HD too for 25.50 - B E A utiful.
#31
I too got the deal last year and cancelled last week. I didn't get an offer for an extra 3/6 months but I don't think I would of accepted anyway. Is it not better to wait for the discount codes again, plus there's a chance of getting quidco which was £100 and £50 m&s voucher.
#32
Just phoned to cancel for the first time and got 6 months half price pretty easily. We have had the full package and payed full price for ages though.

Agreed, it may be better to wait and that was my original intention, however I have grown used to having sky and don't fancy missing the football/movies etc over xmas...hopefully the codes will appear again shortly though for those happy to wait!

oh yes. have a 40" sony and the difference is huge. tv, in sd, looks watery with all the bits of blur you get with say freeview(tho the sky pic is better) in hd tho. clear and very sharp pics. more detail. more vibrant.
#35
I rang up to cancel and they went "ok" - didn't even try to keep me or offer me anything... Mine will be cancelled on the 12th.
#36
Sorry for sounding a bit on the simple side, but all this talk of codes around Christmas time, do they only work for people who have already signed up to sky and try to cancel, or is it for new customers too?

Nothing watery about the samsung sd pic i have here be it freeview or sky, unless your very near the screen its hard to tell the difference.I think the quality of the signal and the tv effects things as some tvs handle sd broadcasts much better than others.

If you wish to leave Sky, you will need to provide 31 days notice if you cancel or downgrade your package. Please call Sky Customer Services on 08442 414 141.

pgregg, I'm not saying you are, but people shouldn't actually be surprised if Sky actually agree to terminate your subscription with any retention offer. They are under no obligation to so.

I think people have to be aware that if you've no intention of cancelling and you're just chancing your arm, you might get your bluff called. ;)
