Farewell Brodie

We noticed over the weekend that Brodie, one of our guinea pigs, wasn't eating properly and looked poorly. Took him to the vet this evening and after a lot of discussion and heartache we decided it would be better for him to be put to sleep.

Brodie:

I'm devastated, as is hubby. Brodie was around 5.5 years old and was our first guinea pig. We've lost a number of other guinea pigs over the last few years, and I guess we knew he wouldn't last forever, but it's still come as a shock.

The vet let us hold him while he gave him the injection and then we sat with him, cuddling him until he was gone. I really hoped that the vet would be optimistic about his chances, but as soon as he looked at him he said he didn't think there was anything that could be done. He's a good vet and we trust him, and I guess deep down I knew what was going to happen.

At least Brodie went peacefully, in our arms. I'm sure we've done the right thing, but it was so hard.

Anyway, just wanted to share my pain with you all!

Thanks - don't worry, I'm not good with things like this either!

We've lost too many of our babies over the last year. To lose King Piggy (as we used to call him) is just too much.

Thanks. H was a special piggy. We took a picture of him and his friend, Azrael, as a bride and groom and used that for our wedding invitations a few years ago.

Azrael doesn't understand what's happening and keeps wandering around in the hutches, looking for Brodie. :-(

The photo we used was higher resolution than the version I've linked to above - couldn't find a larger version of it online at the moment.

I ought to point out that Azrael is a boy, not a girl. He made a great bride though!

So sorry about Brodie anastasia, so very sad when these things happen. :-(

It's still not sunk in yet. Azrael just looks confused. He came out this morning when we gave him some fresh food, realised we were only giving him some more food and then went back in and looked confused. It seemed like he thought Brodie was coming back.
