No need to dispute unless the seller refuses to refund.

No need to dispute unless the seller refuses to refund.

You have 45 days to open a Paypal dispute anyway,so just wait and see what the seller advices,if you return it make sure you send it trackable.

Wait, the seller may offer to refund your return postage, paypal dispute won't reimburse you for this

Have you tried plugging it in to a different socket.
The buzzing you hear could well be interference from another appliance plugged in somewhere else in the house.
It is usually quite close by but not always.

Thanks for the advice.

I will wait a few days for seller to get back to me before approaching paypal.

I haven't tried another socket as a slightly different hi fi was plugged into the same socket, i'll give it a go tho

I would almost bet money that that is your problem.
Completely unplug the other hi fi and try again.

Insist that the seller refunds you your postage I always do especially if the item is not as described. Why should I be out of pocket for their error. I hate it when Paypal don't demand the return postage for NAD items.

Just heard from the seller who is certian the hi fi was working when they sent, after a couple of emails they said if i return they will refund me.

Will i get the original price i paid plus postage or just the price i paid for the hi-fi ? I'm not to worried about sending back costs, but would like the full amount i originally paid back.

You'll get whatever the seller decides to refund you so you'd need to put it to them you expect the postage cost refunded too and see what they say,

A decent seller will refund the postage both ways but your going to have to ask them,

If they refuse to refund any postage costs your better to open the dispute then at least you will get one lot of postage,

Definately make sure you send it trackable or you could end up with nothing

It depends on how much you want this hi fi.
The buzzing you can hear could well be mains hum.
I would try several different sockets and check the plug that the earth lead is tightened.
Have a read here.
It describes mains hum and how to prevent it.
It also has a couple of audio examples at the bottom of the page.
Have a look here.

By the way, what was the item number on e-bay?
