Just really annoyed with Paypal, 5-7 days to get money out of the account, fees seem to be ever increasing as do chargebacks - even if I've used the Paypal to Royal Mail link to pay for postage and have a recorded slip to prove it's been posted!

Tried using google checkout but on my eBay listing I got a red box with red writing saying along the lines of eBay does not support the use of google checkout- can they do this?! maybe it was the item I was selling but still extreme.

Any alternatives, even if it's just for accepting payment from selling or buying things other than eBay?

Google Checkout reliable? I used it for eBuyer and the £10 off promotion but never used it person to person before. When i signed up to google checkout I had to sign something that got emailed to me, I presume it's financial document to say you wont abuse the system and accept their terms.

Mis-conception, you have to offer paypal as ONE of the options you give buyers, not solely paypal.

ebay have stated that you have to LIST paypal as a method of payment - not necessarily accept payments via paypal

I think that unless your feedback is over 100 you can only except Paypal? I think. LOL.

If i was a buyer and the seller lists paypal.. i expect to pay with paypal. Are you suggesting otherwise?
#7
Yeah thats what I meant, that you have to accept paypal as a payment method.

It's ridiculous having to accept payment via a compulsory method that they then charge you for! :x

It does seem eBay have a very restrictive stance on google checkout. Come on google get an auction site up and running!!

eBay is symptomatic of modern, greedy capitalism; create a monopoly and totally exploit the customer. This scenario inevitably leads to much less choice and dictatorial policies. Ebay's recent drastic policy towards postage costs and the buyers' apparent requirement that everything be shipped 'by the cheapest method' will lead to even more chargebacks via Paypal. I stopped using eBay over a year ago when these trends started to become apparent. It would appear that the only 'safe' method of shipping, to avoid chargebacks, is by special next-day delivery, even for items of realtively low value. However, the buyers' dislike of added expense and the punitive measures of eBay taken against sellers offering expensive shipping options would seem to work against using this method. You can always list the item, pay the fee, sell the item, pay the fee, get paid for the item, pay the fee and post the item and lose the lot. Since, ironically, tracking of items posted by recorded delivery can only be done once the package has been signed for and delivered, it is quite easy for unscrupulous buyers to initiate chargebacks - no wonder that Paypal is popular with buyers, as eBay keeps drumming into us.

But what other alternative online sale site is there that attracts any buyers? I signed up to eBid but nobody seems to know it exists. I use this forum to sell but the majority of buyers use paypal to pay!

Some people cannot afford to just buy things and use them then throw them away (well not until uni's finished!) selling them on to get some money back is becoming so difficult and pointless when there's fees all the time, chargebacks, increased postage. As pointed out above its a flawed system.

Credit card companies and banks are making it easier to spend our money, why cant they come up with a good system for paying money to each other via the internet thats fast and safe, unless your a retailer nobody wants to know!
