LD Lines have taken over the old Speedferries route from Dover to Boulogne and are offering one way fares from £24 for a car and 2 passangers, Norfolk Lines are offering fares from Dover to Dunquerque from £19 each way. Both crossings take approx 100 minutes, Norfolk Line have more frequent sailings.

Expect a bit of a shake up on the cross channel ferry market as SeaFrance are slashing almost half its fleet and over 600 jobs (mainly French staff) as it seeks to reverse losses of £3 million a month. Also when the story breaks officially, expect the french unions to take some action. Blockades are their usual course of action.

Thanks for the heads up about the french job cuts and blockades. I will check the news before booking. Last year there was a problem where the lorry drivers held up all the traffic to the port and also one of the boarding roads that lead up to the ferry had broken. Then we were just stuck on the ferry in the channel for an extra hour. It wasn't too bad but its good to know in advance. I have made journeys across since then and its been fine.
