Just so you know, it's a very bad idea and actually quite cruel to take a kitten away from its mother before 12 weeks. It hasn't learned everything it needs to. We got one at 9 weeks years ago and she's a horrible cat. Doesn't like human contact. If possible, I'd get the kitten back to its mother ASAP for a few weeks.

Not trying to be a scrouge, just trying to help.

I'm not saying because it's 8 weeks that your cat is DEFINITELY going to be a social recluse, but it CAN happen. A few more weeks with it's mother will dramatically reduce this likelihood and make it a much nicer and more affectionate cat through the rest of its life. I think holding off for a few more weeks is worth this.

Also, just because it may seem nice and cuddly now, it's usually after a year that they'd start to be come more anti-social.

Actually i totally disagree. Read up on your training and handling, start obedience as soon as possible, and be fair but firm. An extra week spent with the mother will not determine the cats personality, your handling will.

Hi Leer, just thought I would mention white cats and skin cancer,

Our cat Rambo is pure white and he's had both ears removed because of cancer and even now his nose looks sore which the vet is keeping an eye on. Best to put sun block on ears and nose and stop them sunbathing too much. In australia they put down white cats at birth because of this problem and the strength of the sun out there, really sad I know. Better to start as you mean to go on and keep Gucci out of the sun :)

This is true, use factor 50 sun cream even in mild sun. Apply to ear tips and nose.

I would recommend the coloured sun block you can get for kids, it helps to see the bits you have missed. Absolutely gorgeous. we took in an orphan via our vet who was only about 5 weeks, she took alot of care but turned out absolutely great, very loving and friendly, I think its all in the handling. :)
