Let me know when you find out please.

No, more than that.
Someone is being very nasty to 2 nice people in a chat room and need to be stopped.
It seems a "personal visit" is all that will work.
#4
You realise that you won't find a persons home address from their email?!!
At most you will find the IP address of the email server.

What info do you think you will get from it?

Most chat room's are moderated now aren't they
#6
Chat room moderation on AOL is useless.
All that happens is a 10 minute gag.
All aol is interersted in is money and they will never drop a paying customer, NEVER!
Aparently an aol mole was sacked, so there are ways.
I already know there is no address info contained in an Email or I wouldn't be looking for a solution.

Not much stalking going on in here then.

What a nutter that guy is! Suggest he's not helped in his search for chat room vigilante justice....

Thats the sad pathetic world of internet chatrooms.

I used to be involved in that rubbish, and for the rest of my life I will be utterly ashamed of that fact.

ahh trust me, this is nearly human like behaviour on here compared to chat rooms. I feel sorry for the stranger, and Plunn.

I wouldn't worry, there's no way he will find any personal information about the guy from his email or chat room id anyway.

on the very rare occasion i went onto yahoo chat years ago, it was to wind up a workmate and pretend i was a woman, was good fun he went bezerk on me when he found out, i can see how many trolls get their kicks tho it was a right laugh doin it

So, if the internet is not "real" why are you all getting so heated about this?
"Not real" is just an excuse that bullies and people who pretend to be better than they are "in real life" use.
"Not real" are the words that people use to justify the abuse they hand out online that they are too cowardly to say face to face.
I suppose you all regard the comments made by someone who laughs at the death of an old lady's dearly loved mother and mocks another lady who'se son died in an accident as "not real".

It is YOU who is not real.
The internet is a vehicle for communication.
Just like mail and the telephone.
So why do you regard the internet as "not real" but the others are "real"?

In answer to Kungfu.
Yes, I did go to someone's home and convince him to stop accusing me in front of full chatrooms of being a paedophile.
Unlike some of you "unreal" people I stand up for myself and friends.
I also see, from some of your replies that an element of Bullying is in here too.
I'm so glad you are not man enough to be "real"
Wouldn't the world be a sad place if you actually existed.

i like this guy  consider me put in my place .

i once toyed with the idea of putting on a fight night (officially refereed etc) of people from forums who wanted to end the argument with fists lol, as long as both are willing

You really need to get out more, and stop worrying what the nasty peopel are saying to the nice people!

technically sometimes you can. some mta (mail transport agents) add custom header tags to trace the sending computer in case it is discovered to be comprimised with a spam bot. if the border gateway mta does it, it might only show the ip of the internal client pc in which it might be on a private subnet (192.168.. 172... 10.10.. etc) which would be somewhat useless

also some forums put at the bottom of a post the ip address of the poster.

if the user has ever used any variant of skyhook, which can locate you to your house, you could possibly use loki's (consumer version of skyhook) api and possibly get that to show you an address.

www.maxmind.com and
http://www.ipgp.net/
http://www.loki.com

But generally they blur the data (make it inaccurate) unless you pay more.

overall you cannot *reliably* locate someones address because of their ip. what happens if they use a library computer? what happens if they sent it from their work? what about a stolen wifi connection? etc..

my use of the terms "possibly" and "sometimes" generally means "on the rare exception" - but it is still possible, just not probable! :D

I found that post really interesting, so thanks for that.

However, based on the fact the guy is a chat room user, we can safely conclude he's probably not got 2 braincells to rub together, and you lost him at 'technically'

I don't need to.
I just have to read your drivvel.
And for the record.
You asked if "I" was allowed to say it.
You didn't ask if you were.
tbh, YOU shouldn't be allowed to say anything on the grounds of "A closed mouth avoids the foot" ;-)

True.
Are you really happy to be an example of that though?
