Firefox or Internet Explorer?

Hi
Feeling very adventurous with my new netbook which could be a huge mistake.
In the past i have heard many of you say you use firefox. Can you tell me any advantages it could have.
Can you download it like any program and then delete it if you want or do you have to do more to your computer which would probably be a mistake for me.
Can you have firefox and IE on the computer at the same time.
Would it be any faster and quite important are there any security problems with ff.
Many thanks in advance.
Sorry cant reply to any answers tonight shattered and going to bed but will look tomorrow. Cheers.

Firefox can be downloaded for free.
Yes, You can have IE and firefox both installed at the same time.

I use firefox and find it faster and more stable that IE.
It also picks up less virus's and cookies, so personally i prefer it for those reasons.
Give it a go, you've got nothing to lose, and you can always delete it if you prefer IE.

going on the recommendations in this thread, I've just downloaded Google Chrome & bloody hell its a lot quicker then IE8, i've ever only used IE & google chrome is slightly formatted different, but i'll get used to it,do they do any add ons ?
it also appears to have sorted out a lot of my issues I was having with this site. I no longer have to keep scrolling across the page to view it & when i type in here I'm no longer playing catch up with the words.

Chrome user, find it slightly better and faster than Firefox and MUCH faster than IE

Firefox in my opinion is infintely better and faster than IE. I still use firefox but mainly because of the numerous add-ons you can download for it, many of which chrome hasn't got (yet). Setting up a browser for your specifications is quite rewarding and there are numerous sites available through a quick google search to teach you how to make firefox even faster, however having said that chrome is faster than FF these days so if you want just speed I'd recommend chrome :)
As already said you can definitely have both installed at the same time, probably even have them running at the same time (although speed will be hampered) and you can install either one of them and delete them at a later date if you wish.
I can't really say which is safer as both have pretty good means of blocking known dodgy sites although firefox has never questioned me whenever I've wanted to download an .exe (I dunno what IE is like for this). Even though it's never questioned me nothing nasty has ever come through firefox (been using it for a couple of years now) so I would say it's safe and the same goes for chrome which has never caused me any problems or viruses :)

On my desktop I use Firefox mainly for my add-ons that I don't think I could live without now.
On my netbook I use portable apps suite (so firefox) just because it's ultra compact so fast and I like the backup feature. I can also clone it onto an SD card/USB pen to take with me if I dont have my netbook with me like at a friends house or internet cafe when on holiday.

I have firefox on desktop (because of the numerous amout of add-ons i have aqquired) But i have to admitt on my laptop i use chrome which is alot faster. Chrome, when more add-ons become avialible, will be alot better than firefox but it has some catching up to do.
p.s the personas for firefox are pretty cool so they have a edge there.

Google Chrome is far better,
Simple to use, Fast, Pretty Neat (only the web address bar and bookmarks)
Make sure you download the speed dial extension though.
Also typing in a the web address bar can do quick searches and suggests the full link in only a few letters mostly, definitely a plus :D
(ooh that and it auto detects a foreign page &can translate, and other nice touches im sure i've missed)

FF > chrome > opera > Avant > IE8

ie8 is strictly for luddites lol

its that bad.

chrome is slightly faster than firefox but is very basic with limited customisation

couldnt surf without autopager add-on

chrome crashes all the time on my win7

chrome doesnt even support ROBOFORM properly!

I still can't understand how some people using IE like myself aren't having the problems some people are with it,same as some are fine with Firefox and yet my OH has the same set up on both his desktop and netbook and yet can't use his netbook to access HUKD on Firefox as he can't login and the page is different at the top, custom doesn't appear and so on.

Weird how it's not like that on his destop with the same set up.

firefox all the way

+1 for google chrome.

I've swapped to Opera now - I find it quicker than both firefox and IE - I like the speeddial thing too but I'm sure IE & FF probably do something similar?
#21
I use firefox because I've customized it with a script blocker (stops some website nasties), spell-checker other bits and pieces.

It can be a little bit of a memory hog sometimes but is miles better than IE.

Hi just installed chrome a minute a go and this site now looks far better. It fits my netbook page, there is not a lag in typing which was ridiculous, I was about 5 words ahead, and the avartars look better. They seemed a bit stretched or something really weird.
Scrolling down seems to be smoother as well, I was almost having to wait for it to catch up.
A BIG THANK YOU.

Good move in dumping IE, you wont regret it!
You'll soon get used to the new layout.

Google Chrome add ons are called "extensions", and can be found here:
https://chrome.google.com/extensions/?hl=en

Highly recommend your first one should be AdBlock

Thank you I have been using google chrome on and off throughout the day now.
All my problems on this sites new layout seem to have sorted out.
It seems to load quicker and scrolling down is smooth not laggy.
It was very easy to install and I am getting used to it straight away.
Cheers everybody. Doubt I will ever go back to Internet Explorer now.
