The company is planning two screen sizes (5.8- and 6.2-inches) for the S8, its first flagship smartphone to follow last year’s Note 7 debacle. The big “infinity display” screens — larger than even the Note’s 5.7-inch display — have an unconventional aspect ratio of 18.5:9, according to the reports.

Samsung is indeed planning a feature resembling Windows Continuum that will give the Galaxy S8 desktop PC-like functionality when plugged into an optional HDMI dock, the report says. And the phone will have a dedicated button to activate Samsung’s own take on the personal assistant, reportedly called Bixby, a new feature made possible by the company’s acquisition of Viv Labs in 2016. Venture Beat claims Bixby is “said to be able to handle more complex commands than its competitors” like Apple’s Siri and Google Assistant.

The cameras on the S8 will go largely unchanged from last year’s model, but will gain new software features; the iris scanner first seen in the recalled Note 7 will also be carried over to Samsung’s latest smartphone. The device might be priced higher than the S7 that it’s succeeding; we should know more about that when Samsung holds its yet-to-be-announced Unpacked event in New York City in March.

In Europe, the 5.8-inch model will retail for €799 and the 6.2-inch model at €899. Both go on sale April 21

Shame about the screen sizes in my opinion. I would prefer something a little smaller.

The aspect ratio means the S8/S8+ phones will be no wider at all than the S7/S7 edge.

Joke prices. I wonder what the ceiling is for phone prices before people start turning their back.

5.8 vs 6.2" screen size? Why not just round it to 6" and then do massive production run helping keep the cost down and avoiding confusion.

good news for Xiaomi, way overpriced!

The loss of the home button with fingerprint scanner is a real stinker to me - it was one of my favourite things about Samsungs - with the added bonus of the camera quick-launch. I know some people prefer fingerprint sensors on the rear but they just aren't for me.

Maybe this will have some sort of haptic button in the screen (with a similar effect to the iPhone 7) but I'm not sure how that will work.

well that is clearly micro usb so it's got to be fake since the a3/a5 2017 and the note 7 all have usb-c

I was hoping to upgrade my note 4 to this, but I think I'll just keep it till it fully gives up on me!!

Doesn't look that great and can't imagine not having an s pen with such a big screen.

No they thought they'd leave it

So it looks like a phone. What's the big deal? It can't travel through space and time and it isnt bigger on the inside than the outside. Don't see the appeal

Well spotted, I agree.

Please no glass back, so damn fragile. Cracked it on both my Note 5 & Note 7 with very minor falls

It is glass on the back if these renders are correct. it has the fingerprint scanner in a stupid position, it apparently doesn't have much of a camera upgrade to last year's and it is likely to be £100 more than last year's S7 launch price - so around £649 for the smaller model. I'm not feeling all that excited about this, personally. I'm not the guy that creams his pants over slim bezels though, and that seems to be the big thing in the S8 this year - and phones generally. I kind of like some bezel so that I don't constantly catch things on the screen...and so I can use a screen protector!

With things like the Lenovo P2 in the world I honestly don't get why someone would spend an extra £450 on an Android like this - I get that the camera will be a lot better, and it no doubt makes people erect when they perform Antutu tests with it but aside from that...it's just just another Android with the same apps and notifications and shiz.

It does travel through space and time. It will travel into the future and it will travel in your pocket.

Its hard to tell, it might just be the angle it's at. If it is micro USB then the pictures are fake everyone but apple will be USB C this year and maybe even apple too.

Quite possibly, though unlikely they will make the same mistake again. Was a shame though i wanted a note 7 and apparently it was very good apart from the danger issue.

One would hope not but they took their own sweet time to deal with that problem .

They recalled it before i could even buy one, not sure how much quicker they could be.

No. They've decided to just launch with a 'fingers crossed' attitude after a billion pound write down. That's what big companies do.
