First time in Florida - 2 weeks in Orlando or twin centre

I''ve got flights to Orlando for next year and wondered if I should have 2 weeks totally in Orlando, or whether I should split it and have a week/10days in Orlando and some time at the coast.

Any thoughts from those in the know would be really appreciated. (There'll be 2 adults, 2 kids)

How old are the children? I would recommend going to Miami however not the greatest place for young kids.

Whatever you decided, have a great time. I am going next year with my two little ones and cannot wait.

The kids are 8 and 6 so maybe too young for Miami but manys thanks anyway. They definately want to do the themes parks in Orlando and I didn't know if a few days at the coast would refresh us before coming back home.

10 days in Orlando and 4 days in Tampa to unwind before you come home.

If you do a 2 centre I can recommend Clearwater. Certainly not Miami (bit of a dump IMO)

Kids are way too young for Miami. You will most likely find that 2 weeks will not be enough time to get around the entire theme park, so maybe best to plan your days wisely.
Have not been to Tampa but my friend who went said that it was very nice.

Miami a dump......first I have heard of that. I suppose everyone has their own experiences. I had a lovely time and have visted many places that I would consider a dump.
I did however spend most of the time wasted though, so maybe my eyes were cloudy from all the drink that I consumed.

Thanks for all of your replies. Still can't decide. I guess if we spend the full 2 weeks in Orlando, there won't be so much rushing around trying to cram everything in. But the coast does look (from the pictures) very inviting.

You'll definitely need two weeks in Orlando, especially if it's your first time. We've been 4 times now and still haven't managed to get it down to a week yet - far too much fun stuff to do!!

You will need two weeks in Orlando - it is exhausting though on your first trip, the thing is that you will get a Disney ticket 7 days (14 for the price of 7) and you still wont see it all. I advise stay in Orlando for the two weeks, the kids will love it and you can take your time going to the park, they can be exhausting. In saying that I absolutely love the Gulf Coast - St Petes and Clearwater, also a great time for the children, I would, they will be enthraled with the swimming with fishes swimming by and the Sand Dollars, but again depens on the tim e of year you go as it can be very hot at the beach for young children

Definitely Orlando - though it really depends on what YOU want!

Plus its best value for park tickets!

2 weeks in Orlando I reckon and you probably still won't have seen/done it all.

First time I went, I done the two centre thing with Miami and I hated the place! Since then I just do the Orlando one centre and maybe travel for the odd day or two to Clearwater, Tampa, Naples etc.

You can always go to the coast from Orlando for the day. IIRC it was about 70 miles from Kissimme to Daytona (went to the race track too)

Daytona is very nice just like the set off Baywatch

We've done 2 weeks in Orlando and also split 1 week Orlando 1 week Clearwater.
Found that staying 2 weeks in Orlando but alternating one day in the park then 1 day by the pool was the best.

Thanks all of you for your replies - and I will definately take the advice of the majority which is to spend the full fortnight in Orlando. We'll get a villa with a pool and spend some time their relaxing in between visits to theme parks etc.
Thanks again

Just got back from orlando today after 2 weeks there............so much to do....so little time, the kids will be sooo tired so i would suggest staying in one place and setting aside a couple of days just for chillin, my boys are 13 and 11 and they are absolutely knackered.......my OH has just took himself off to bed! :)

You definately need 2 weeks in Orlando...but what we did was drive up to clear water for the day and have a chill day...about an hour drive...beach is absolutely beautiful and the sand is so white and sooooo soft....lol

Sanibel and Captiva off the coast of Fort Myers. Absolutely wonderful places. Look them up on Google. You will not be disappointed. Just what you need after the hectic pace of the theme parks. We think two weeks doing theme parks is too tireing and no holiday. Kids get knackered too.
