Im looking to by a good shoot-em-up game for my PC. Like Medal of Honour, something like that.

How do PC Games compare to like Ps3 and Xbox's???

Can anyone recommend a cheap game shoot-em-up game aswell and if I would need a controller also?

Such a novice! sorry!!!

Depending on the power of your PC...

You have: (that are still popularish)

Medal of honour (Spearhead is the popular one still)
Call of Duty 2

These are the better for novices and the graphics aren't too bad and don't need a super computer to run.

You can pick up medal of honor WARCHEST which has the game and the 2 add ons for under a £10 in most game shops (and thats brand new) may even find it used for £5

The choice between Keyboard and Mouse and Controller is purely down to taste.

many gamers swear by keyboards and swear at controllers. Once you play with a keyboard and mouse you never go back, takes some getting used to if your used to a controller though, but stick with it.

Pariah is excellent and i bet you can get it for less than a fiver nowadays.

Also try Serious Sam 1 and 2 they are really good and you'll also be able to get them cheap as they are a few years old now

Counter Strike Source/1.6

Source is possibly the biggest pc game now, as 1.6 is more or less dead.
With things such as cgs and other great leagues.

i totally agree the keyboard and mouse is much easier to control especially in FPS, i've just bought an X Box 360 and its a so hard to kill things quick or move exactly how you want to. Wish there was a keyboard & mouse attachment for it, it would be superb then!

Fears good, definetly stick with keyboard and mouse for all of them.

Most games about now are progressions from Medal of honor, Wolfenstein and Unreal Tournament.

Best about at the moment is COD 4 but you really need a NASA approved machine and graphics card to run it properly.

Online gaming is a must great fun, just be prepared for the occasional Geeky Pro to have some attitude and call you a NOOB, ignore them you will get better and enjoy yourself.

If you get Medal of Honor, PM me and I will give you a couple of Game Server address that are friendly

PC fps are quite often online-only so unless you specify single player you're likely to get those recommendations as one (Counter Strike Source is one).

What style of FPS are you looking for? The definition is a bit fuzzy and includes a lot of different types of gameplay.

Portal is a must-have if you haven't played it on console.

Unreal Tournament 2004 is an excellent game, bioshock is supposed to be very good as well although I haven't played it yet.

You really need to post what PC you have (Processor / graphics card) as you may not be able to play many fps games at all if your PC isnt newish.

I agree, get on Counter Strike Source (Although 1.6 is still better gameplay imo). Cheap, relatively easy to pick up and mouse & keyboard job

I would love to have bought a 360 or PS3 but I am so use to playing games with keyboard and mouse combined but there are many FPS games that god only knows how people can play them with a console controller.

Half life 1 (much better then HL2 )
COD 1 (best of the series)
MOH:AA (best of the series)

I didn't think half life 1/2 or CSS was that good, but other people like it.

Call of Duty is a good game, as is 2 and supposedly 4.

Mouse and keyboard is the standard for PC fps games (and most other types except flying/sport/driving games).

If you have only played on consoles get ready for a big shock, things happen damm fast in PC FPS games you won't stick your head round a corner and live more n a second, but what a rush when you go into "the zone".

try these on-liners, they are free for starters

and i'm still a big fan of cod 1 and 2, can't wait for 5!!

you get used to it. After 20 years of PC gaming I bought a console (PS3) and would now not dream of playing a PC game again. Each to their own though and I did like the fact PC games were free ;-).
