Can anyone suggest what things are good to eat if you want to help build your stamina or use energy more slowly?

I know Cardio is best to build up stamina but surely there are foods/drinks out there that could help push me in the right direction?

I go to the gym often, but need tips as i've stopped playing football for a few years now, and hate cardio lol

The rugby club I used to play for had a sports nutritionist team come and speak to use pre-season one year, they recommended that before and after a work out you eat honey and other dried fruits, basically the sugar in the fruit (fructose) is utilized meaning that no muscle mass is lost to catabolism.

Oh ok sounds like a good tip, I heard that before a workout Banana can help burn energy slowly, how much truth is there in that?

i'm pretty sure chilli (maybe sweet chilli) is good to get you more energetic...

not sure about that, but Chilli does increase your metabolism! :thumbsup:


have pasta about an hr before you go gym, with some protein

depends what your goals are as to what you should eat, personally i eat a hell of a lot of protein per day but thats for muscle growth, if its slow release energy you want then oats are one of the best, porridge etc. Also depends how close to workout time you want to eat, jelly babies are the best last minute fix for energy in the gym, eat a packet before u step on the treadmill and ten min into your run they will kick in good style ;)

Also you said about building up stamina...best technique ive found is to set the tradmil for 30 min, run flat out for 5 min then walk for 2 min and repeat til zero. By flat out i mean til you feel you are gonna puke haha, Your stamina will build up in no time doint that 3 times a week

Well to be honest, ive been doing kickboxing on and off for a yr but have recently struggled with the work load and wanted to up my stamina, could you or any1 else suggest stuff and drinks (names) that would help with using your body's energy in an efficient way. I go on treadmill for around 10 mins and slow it down half way... then start it up again but its tooooo boring just running lol

by 'use the bodys energy in an efficient way' not sure exactly what you mean but i use a supplement called l-carnatine, its helps to carry fat cells into fuel the body uses during cardio. yeah running is boring i get some good tunes on me mp3 or even a film converted to mp3 and listen to that if im gonna do a long run, passes the time easier. Also one of the best bits in the gym for cardio is the stepper machine, now a lot of blokes frown on this as they think its for the old biddy brigade, BUT whack it up on a high setting for 20 min, and dont hold on to the barriers and its an absolute killer, its like running up stairs. superb for building stamina. there aint no quick fix drink or potion for stamina mate is has to be built up, the 2 methods ive said so far are absolute rock solid stamina builders.
