In the rest of Britain, motorists and passengers over 14 can be fined £30 for not wearing a seat belt. A driver is also responsible for any passenger 13 or under.

U do realise even a 30mph smash would send your skull crushing into the windscreen to probable death with no belt, put it on and u may bruise your shoulder a bit...........no brainer to me :?

odb my grandad died after a car accident where he split the steering wheel in two with his chest. My Gran broke her legs in 3 places and never walked without a caliper on it again.
It was a car that didnt have seatbelts factory fitted and they hit an artic straddling a dual carraigeway that had no lights on the side(as in not my Grandads fault)

People who don't wear seatbelts tend to learn the hard way, The same goes with drink driving, Clearly you couldn't give a toss about your own safety. I just hope that you give thought to every other road users. If theirs kids in the car make sure you lead by example and BUCKLE UP..!!!. Your not invincible, Your not immune to accidents. Buckle Up in future and I'm pleased you got the tickle, Serves you right...!!!

In most modern cars the airbag will stop you hitting the windscreen - unfortunately without a seat belt the airbag is likely to break your neck ;-)

I got done for no seat belt about 7 or 8 years ago and given a fixed penalty which I am sure was £50. (On my way home from the railways station and just a mile to drive - clean forgot - no excuses!!)

There certainly wasnt any points (Ive never had any points on my license) and I wasnt in any position to dispute this, so just paid up.

However in your case I would be tempted to ask them for further details to see why they beleived you were not wearing a seat belt. Often its pretty difficult to tell - and if they cant really prove it, you have a case to appeal. Though if you did, you of course risk an increased fine and court costs. A gamble for sure!

Don't be a knob end, strap up. If I was involved in an accident with you and you died then I'd feel terrible, probably wouldn't ever get over it. You may have a death wish but that's no excuse.

Yeah i mean, whats the big deal about putting a belt on, it literally takes like 2 seconds or something (might time it more accurately later or am sure blackgerbil knows), the only reason i can see for not wearing one is cos people think it makes then look hard, well it doesnt it makes you look like a dong imo
#29
I hope its the maximum, silly driving without a seatbelt.

Appeal against the fine, you will probably win.

But wear a seatbelt next time!

Yes but 70% of appeals are won as they don't have the time/money to deal with them.
#33
I wear it most the time, my own fault I admit that. I was driving about 400m from one place I was working to the next and forgot to put it on. I wear it all the time in the car as the car goes mental if I don't my van doesn't do that. I now have a big psot it note reminding me to belt up. I just don't wanna be £60 out of pocket for something stupid like this.

I thought I was on your ignore list? Can I go back on it please.

I remember getting one of these forms where I genuinely didnt know who was driving the car at the time. So made an appointment to see the camera pic expecting it to be some grainy image that I could potentially call this into question.
The picture was crystal clear so I filled in the form and paid the consequences.

I think you should do the same and count yourself lucky that all you'll get is a fixed penalty fine.

As for other posters who dont wear a seat belt I would urge you to do so for all journeys no matter how long or short. I have seen some pretty gruesome crashes where the occupant has been killed and where the phrase 'if only he'd been wearing his seatbelt at the time' was used. Note that it always seems to be men who think they have superhuman powers (must be all the comics they read as kids!)

It makes no difference to your insurance if you are wearing it or not! i had an accident on the motorway at 70mph my passenger wasn't wearing her seatbelt she fractured her skull and spent 6 weeks in a coma, when i asked my insurance abt her not wearing a seatbelt they said quote "it makes no difference to the insurance"

It's rather daft not mentioning the fine on the letter they've sent, my guess from watching various police programs would be 30 pounds.

Wearing a seatbelt is not a decision I make as I put the belt on automatically when I get in the car.

Ive had three serious accidents everytime i was wearing a belt and walked away without a scratch!
1. lost control doing 60mph around a bend, drove straight into a wall.
2. lost control doing 40mph, car ended upside down in a ditch, unclicked and got out the window
3. fell asleep on motorway and drove into central reservation, the bang woke me up and I pulled safely into the slip lane just to assess damage to car.
Safe to say I would never drive off without a seat belt!

If you ever see me hitching a lift...........please God just keep driving. ;-) :p
