Flash USB drive coming up MUST FORMAT TO USE?

Hi basically my usb is coming up with that i got loads of data, its backed up but the back up is at college. Is there anyway to get around this pls thanks

try it in a different pc.
i quite often get this sort of then with one of my drives

That either means your data is corrupt, in which case use a recovery tool. Or it's your computer been a pain in the bum, try it in a different one as mentioned above.

Try running a disk checker on it to see if any part of it is corrupt.

Get this alot i just switch off pc for 5 mins

you'll quite often find that if the usb drive has been used/formatted in an vista windows 7 or any machine that uses ntfs you'll quite often find that XP cannot read it.
Simple asnwer is copy the stuff onto a computer that will read it, then reformat the usb stick as fat32 then copy the files back on and now almost any machines will read it

Other way is install ntfs support in the xp machine

All of the above. Also, obvious as it sounds, try it in a different USB port if you haven't already. For recovery software, try diskdigger, I've had moderate success with it in the past.

Did you try the system disk checker? Is the drive appearing under My Computer?

If so,
Right click on drive, choose properties.
Choose Tools tab then Error Checking.
Tick both options and let it run.
It might help, depending on how severe the issue is.
