A friend of mine said he's just had his xbox flashed. I told him that it will get banned soon as MS are now clamping down on people but he says there is a update comming out that will allow you to play copied games online and MS cant detect it. This true?

I don't want it doing but I think he's lying

lol, there is an update ( a newer hacked firmware version ) aka LT (lite touch) and yes there are more attempts to not be detected put in there, but no guarantees will ever be made..

Flash your 360, take your chances, simple..

Fact is, the ammount you save by playing copies more than pays for a new 360 to flash again and play till that gets banned..

Called ixtreme lite touch, details are scarce. Hes not lying

Yeah ive heard about this called ixtreme lite touch:thumbsup: But still no gurantee you wont be banned. I have now gone legit after my third banning in just over a year:-D

Surely it's just the playing of back up games you don't own that is illegal.

but what is the point in someone flashing their xbox if they don't intend to use dodgy games?

Yep, as others have said, C4eva is working on a new firmware Ixtreme LT, it has been theorised that the problem before with the custom firmware being detected by Microsoft was due to the fact the custom firmware checked that backups were stealthed, this caused a slower spin cycle on the disk on both backups and originals.

The new LT firmware is allegedly going to be like the original firmware. It will not check for stealth with backups, therefore the user has to ensure that their backups are properly stealthed, containing the correct angles, wave info, PFI and security sectors.

However, the best bet for any 360 with custom firmware is NOT to go online at all, this will prevent the 360 from getting banned, and as a result you will maintain hard disk support.

My advice, have two 360s, one for playing on Xbox Live with originals, the other for testing out games. Support the developers of the games that deserve it, and if you cannot afford the games wait for the prices to drop, lets face it 2 months after a games release sees it already falling by nearly 50% its RRP, a further couple of months after that and you will be able to pick a game up either new or pre-owned for a 1/3rd of the RRP or less.

There isn't any other point, but it doesn't actually mean that flashing the drivers firmware is illegal itself, playing backups is, and modifying your drive is breaking terms and conditions of the Xbox Live contract, hence why Microsoft have been banning once detected.

Playing backups of games you own?

They said that about the last update aswell, that worked out really well for everyone...

Yes, well, as I said, its best to have two 360s, they can only theorise it was the stealth firmware checking slowing down the drive that caused the problem, for all anyone knows MS can detect the custom firmware another way, even with the new LT to be released shortly. In theory it sounds good, I for one wouldn't risk it, not for Xbox Live, as I said any new game is it really a bug bear waiting 3 months until you can pick it up for 1/3rd of the original price or less, and just play single player games on a second console.

Ahh right so it is true. Thanks for everyones input.

However they say it can't be detectable now but MS will be working round the clock to get round it
#15
They will find out it's a cat and mouse game atm...

Microsoft have the upper hand but when Lt come's out we have the upper hand till november next year when they need sale's.

Tbh it would not suprise me that MS has always knew the flashed console's and decided that they will ban at Xmas time as the PS3 is near enough the same price as the elite.

I have 3 xbox's 1 downstair's for media extender(unmodded) 2 in my game's room one modded for offline game's and the unmodded one for online gaming i.e MW2/FIFA 10.

Don't want to chance it again and get another banning :)

Lets face it, Microsoft can afford to have people working on it, banter on forums, speculations, not exactly hard for MS to know what the next steps are, then download the new "Ixtreme LT" flash one of their own 360s and work on live to find whatever loophole and the ban begins again.

they said the last one wasn't detectable either and now there are thousands of banned 360's :whistling:

The banning was one thing, what totally narks me though is the flag they put on the nand so it cripples hard disk installs being signed, making your hard disk redundant.

This is why its just not worth going online with a firmware modded 360. Keep it "unbanned" by not allowing MS the privilidge of having a connection to it...that way you can still have your backup games on the hard disk. Owning two consoles is the best, if you like a game and know its good on Live, then buy it after a couple of months of playing the single player when the price comes down...thats really the only way to "beat" Microsoft, at least safely.

In the meantime anyway, anyone that has been banned that has bought a new 360 is going to not be able to install Ixtreme LT on their consoles, any Liteon drive after August 2009 currently there is no way to extract and spoof the drive key to inject into the custom firmware.

Also MS have new warranty stickers, unlike the old silver ones that were easy to remove with just a hairdryer, the new ones are paper like and have thermal dye sensoring.

Well Xbox live logs can be checked to see what security checks are in place. By keeping the firmware as close to original it gonna be difficult for MS to detect it, the onus will be on the user to keep their copies ripped properly as the security protection that ixtreme had wont be there. Lucky that MS arent able to dump the drive to detect the firmware (as this is only possible by manually putting it into service mode).

As always its a cat and mouse game,, people had a clean run for a few years and after the next firmware is out it will be down to MS to find new ways to try and detect again.

People say that Microsoft will be working round the clock to get people again on the new firmware but you have got to remember it took them 3 years to find a flaw in the firmware which enabled the to ban everyone conclusively ( other bannings were due to rips not having stealth and bad rips so the disk to blame not the firmware) My guess that if the firmware is done correctly and strips out the bloated features and mimics original firmware then MS are gonna be hard pushed to beat it, but the onus will be on the user to check their rips.

But you can now install to Harddrive so its not really a problem anymore.

The best way really is to have 2 like said before one unmodded for online play and other modded for offline and if you like a game and want to play online buy it:thumbsup:

Or just go legit thats what ive done after my third banning:-D

i'm looking to buy a new 360, but a friend of mine told me that all consoles now being sold in shops can't be flashed, is this correct? He said its something to do with the DVD drive in them now, not being able to be flashed? He therefore suggested that if I wanted a flashable 360 i'd have to buy a second hand one? given how unreliable they can be i'd rather get a brand new one....guess you cant have it all!
