Flat screen Lcd tv problem

Some body i know has just bought a new flat screen tv this christmas and after looking at the screen there seems to be some sort of widening of picture at the sides. For example if you watch sky sports news and there is a banner running accross the screen it is very easy to see the text gets bigger and the sides of the screen and is the correct size in the centre. It happens when watching anything really but whilst reading any sort of text this is where it becomes the most prominent

Im not really sure how else to describe this or if this is actually a manufacturer problem or whether this is infact normal?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

All HD TVs have settings for Zoom and picture stretch,How you adjust it depends on the make and model of TV,
#2
cinema mode will stretch it off the screen
