Fleabay postage overcharge

Few days ago i bought a nice camera from eBay for around £45. It was listed as being posted by RM Special Deliv Next Day 9:00AM. That was charged at £7.

It didn't turn up the next day, but today, the day after. I checked the RM stamp and it had only cost them £3 and was sent first class. Packaging was only golden present wrapping paper with a reused address label.

Should i complain about this overcharge?

If it wasnt sent by the service stated then yes.

so none recorded, seller was risking a chargeback then

Yep I would definetly ask for a refund of a few pound, but ask nicely first as I have in the past quoted a price for postage and then got it a lot cheaper then I imagined and have always been happy to pay the difference back to the buyer.

However I would never say I was posting it special delivery and then just post it 1st class.

Exactly!

People are using the postage to make a little extra due to eBay charging %10 Which i think is outstanding

It was First Class Recorded Signed for. Which incedentally, the postman as usual didn't make me sign for. We have some sort of bond now, between us and the postman, he just opens our door and put's the post on the hallway, very nice of him as we dont have to get up!

You paid for special and it was sent recorded so you've got grounds to complain!

Was it on auction or BIN?

My train of thought was,if it was auction the seller expected it to sell for more so SD was required.

I think the seller certainly downgraded the postage after seeing your post above because he expected to get more for it,email and see what they say.

It doesn't matter. OP paid for special delivery, it wasn't special delivery, end of argument imo!

Get off your high horse,i didn't say it was right i was thinking of a reason why it had happened,i've already said email them and see what they say, jeez, chill.

If all is ok don't worry, maybe they forget to ask sign for etc.....maybe an error

Is £2 or £3 really that important? As said already the seller probably expected to get a lot more from the auction, so probably thought it's not worth spending an extra £5-6 on Special Delivery (Although the 9am service is very expensive a lot more that £7 I think)

I just had the same thought and was looking it up as you posted,i think the seller meant ordinary SD NOT 9am as that's like 11 quid.

Although if the seller had sent it 9am SD I'm quite sure the buyer wouldn't be bothered about the seller paying 4 quid extra lol

What was the item and how much did it weigh?

That's irrelavent, they paid for SD and got 1st class, yes it's only a couple of quid but I'd complain to the seller. It's the principle not the money (although it maybe to the OP)

must have been a bloody light camera, it cost nearly that to send a dvd by recorded

£7 would be about right for a camera SD.

Irony level off the scale.

I'd ask for money back, you paid for a service they did not provide, why should they profit from it?
#23
if it cost £3 to send first class recorded that means it weighed less than 500g, £2.24 plus 75p for the recorded, unless the 75p was on top of the £3
anyway if it was to be sent as less than 500g on special deliv by 9 it would have been £13.10, but they could have sent it by 1 which is only £5.50
even at a weight upto 1000g it would've been £6.70 so still within what they have charged, but obv packing goes on that aswel
#24
Does it really matter that much ?? You knew how much postage was before you paid, it says up to 2 days postage, you got it in 2 days, item is fine (or you would have said), ..... enjoy your purchase ! The seller may have had a long drive to PO, may have kids on holiday ... etc etc - relax and chill, no harm done 8)
#25
You got the item you wanted for the price you wanted in the time frame the seller stated, I wouldn't complain if I was you.

Special delivery by 9am!! That is even better than normal SD!! And more expensive and I agree with everyone else who said you should get the service which was advertised!
I would have even complained if it was sent Special delivery 1pm

Give me your ebay ID so I would ban you from my auctions. We all know SD before 9am was just a mistake from the seller they must have meant 1pm

A mistake? we all know?????

so lets say the seller also made a mistake with the listing also, and you end up with the wrong item, this is misrepresentation whether it was a mistake or not.

If i work during the day, and the only reason i purchase your auction is so i have time to get the parcel before work, and i need it for an occasion and it doesn't arrive, i will be requesting compensation, i suggest if you are a seller on ebay, make sure your lising is accurate, there is no excuse.

Postage and delivery terms can sway whom i purchase from and sometimes if i even purchase an item i need on ebay at all.
