flueless gas fire advice

EN1GMAEN1GMA

Hi guys

right, so the OH decides last minute that she wants a gas fire and seeing as we have knocked down the chimney breast, it will have to be the flue less way.

Anyone know of any good discount sites that do a good range? Ive got a budget of about £250, could stretch to £300 at a push.

Just need to know the type of things I need to look out for and mainly want to buy one which has good reviews.

any other related advice welcome too.

Thanks.

If anyone knows of any good showrooms in and around Preston, then I'd rather go down actually in person to check them out before I buy one.

I had a flueless gas fire fitted lately but found it hard to get someone to fit it as in the old days they were not always safe, but ok these days, the one person who done it charged a fortune. You also need a 100mm vent in the wall, I got a Smeg fire, not cheap but worth it

I'd go balanced flue rather than flueless, if your girlfriend is really set on a gas fire. Balanced flue is much safer, and all it means is that the fumes are vented outside through a hole in the wall behind the heater rather than up the chimney (so no chimney required) but external wall is required. However, the heaters are slightly more expensive - around £400 standard. Any engineer would be able to fit them.

What's the difference between balanced and flueless?

I'm no expert (_;) but in flueless the heater converts the poisonous fumes into something safer before emitting them into the room, in balanced flue the heater vents the fumes out of an external wall outside (its like a horizontal chimney)

    Just seen this

    They installed a flueless fire.
They have eco retrofitted an old house.

Just thought it may be of interest
