FlyDrive to Florida - Advice?

Hi!

I want to take the family to Florida next April (Easter) for two weeks - so I'm looking to put a fly-drive package together. I need to find a villa, flights and a car.

There seems to be loads of villas so I'm sure I can find one of those... and a car's probably not a problem either - but regarding flights...

I just searched travelsupermarket for flights and they're coming out at 750 pounds a ticket, return. That seems pretty steep...

So is there an ideal time to look for flights? I don't want to end up without any flights at all so can't leave it TOO long - but on the other hand, 750 each (for five of us) is just too expensive!

Any advice on this (or on any aspect of putting this trip together in fact)? Perhaps you've been yourself and have a villa to recommend? Or... well anything!

Thanks,

Jamie.

We just went during the Easter holidays then and we went with a company called Ocean Florida? Paid about £900 pp for what you are looking for but that was the cheapest but £100s. Worth checking them out, one of the best companies I have went with and we have been to Florida about 10 times :)

I have been to the Orlando area 7 out of the last 9 years and my general advice would be

Wait and check netflights and or other similar sites every few days for flights and car hire (car hire changes with exchange rates more so than flights) I have just returned a couple of days ago and ba flights were £450 from gatwick including connecting flights from glasgow but the same flights have been as high as £750 and as low as £380 so depends on exchange rates, capacity. demand, oil prices etc. Had I held off to the week before I could have had direct flights from glasgow with Thomas Cooks airline for £370 on the same days.
For villas try http://www.orlandovillas.com/ you submit your needs(size, location, dates etc) and villa owners contact you with prices and availability I had two weeks here http://www.orlandovillas.com/florida-vacation-rental-542.aspx and it was very clean and a great location for all attractions and restaurants etc and was a good price and the owners were friendly and professional.

Tip for car hire, book the smallest/cheapest car(they dont generally have any anyway) and haggle for an upgrade there I paid £200 for the cheapest car and upgraded to a fullsize 4x4 for $120 at the Thrifty desk at MCO airport and dont pay for a tank of gas upfront its money making scam for rental firms

Oh nearly forgot if you collect lots of tesco clubcard points Virgin is worth a look

I think I would book flights now with VirginAtlantic, being looking too and have noticed today that flights from Manchester with dates at Easter start at £417 but raising fast.
One date 2 days ago was £417 now its gone up to £460 :-(
plus there is a couple of quid to be saved with quidco 2% which should cover the 1.5% cc fee

Continental Airways do have prices from £333!

Wed 7th to Tue 20th £417 I know it's a little bit outside the 2 main weeks of Easter, but our schools are off the 2nd, go back 19th April,

cheapestflights.co.uk or travelpack.com quoted the £333 flight

My tip for car hire is Hire anything with a Hemi V8 engine, gas is cheap over there, the yanks complain how expensive is it is, but to us its dirty cheap.
I cant justify driving a V8 over here, so take the opportunity when in the states.

I have just booked to fly with thomsons in september. Worked out at £385 each with extras like the flight meal and a suitcase each.
I then booked a fantastic villa I found on ebay. Its a 4 bed 3 bathroom, 2 lounges, several dining areas, games room and 30 foot swimming pool and jacuzzi and its cost us £540 for the entire two weeks.
We are going with my husbands parents so it has worked out at £1100 per couple!
