Take the rotting carcass with you and make a scene. Slam it down on the counter and tell them you want one that runs and squeaks etc. lol

pets at home are awful for buying pets from loads of people i know have bought ots of different types of animals and the majority of them were either sick or died soon after

get your money back and buy elsewhere

my brother brought a hamster from pets at home aswell and it too died within a week of them purchasing it, after 3 days they took it back as it wasnt very well obviously and they kept it in the store to look after it..

In the end they just got a refnd

I bought for my lil boy a guinea pig from Pets At Home as well, and after 1 week, all of his legs started to paralysed, couldn't even walked. We even give him some calcium drop as well but he didn't make it.

Didn't even bother bring it back to the store, paid £20 for it but couldn't get a refund or replacement at all...

The other one we bought from a local pet store lives until now

Never ever buy any animal from Pets at Home. They are an awful company and do not look after their animals.

Go to a smaller pet store or directly to a breeder.

For all you jokers out there.....i would hate to see how you would handle the situation with your own children (my boy is 5 years old) Wouldnt think he would find it very funny!

Aww thats sad.

I totally sympathise with your situation - unlike alot of others who just like to make jokes. I hope your little boy is ok tomorrow.

Thankyou xx

Very sad situation, however, possibly for the best that it happened now like this as Syrian hamsters are solitary animals and should be kept on their own. Pets at home shouldn't have sold you two to live in the same cage. It's far kinder for you to make up a nice story about why he died now than have to explain to him why it died after being attacked by the other one. It's a good sign that the other one is alert and active, so try and get your little boy to focus on the one that's left. Try and get a refund but don't get a replacement from their or anywhere else, unless it's going to live in another cage

Bless, this is the trouble with pets. I too avoid pets at home and only have rescue pets. Most of the time we have friends animals that they get bored of. Have you tried the RSPCA as they often have hamsters that need rehousing. They may be 6 months older but you know that a) they are in good health and b) they are friendly. I have had loads of hamsters and have to say that the little ones I have always found to be very nippy. The big ones are much friendlier. Rats are also much better but I know lots of people don't like them. I have always heard bad thongs about the pets bought from pets at home. Definately get your refund though. Hope your son is feeling better soon. My 5 year old fell on his rabbit a few months ago and killed him and was devistayed. Yes very funny for everyone else but he is still gutted that he killed his rabbit and watched it die. Ignore the jokers but they mean no harm

Sorry hadn't read that you were sold 2. I know they can live as pairs if they have always been kept together but I wouldn't risk it. I never thought they sold them together and never put another one in with that one

I bought a hamster at [email protected], It lived a full 4 year's, had the most personality I had seen in an animal for a long time, real character. It died on Christmas eve at 11:00PM :(

Sorry peeps..need to state that i was sold 2 but they are in 2 seperate parts of the cage-ie. a huge rotostak set up but they were blocked off from each other! I will state that the only good thing Pets at Home did was to advise not to put together!

I had 2 goldfish from there, died within a few weeks, got really bloated, turned greenish and floated to top of tank, so must of had some sort of disease. Didnt bother going back since they were only cheap (so no point in refund) and didnt want replacement

Had 2 others a while later which I got from 2 different fairgrounds, and both lasted years!

Hope you get it sorted and your son is ok, since you had 2 why not say 1 has gone to another little boy to make him happy like the other one is making your son happy?

Spoke to Pets @ Home. They will happily give me a refund. She didnt seem suprised AT ALL when i explained what had happened.Something makes me think she's heard it all before.
#36
No need for a new cage just wash it out and clean with hamster safe disinfectant as for pets at home they don't breed the animals they just get them In so the breeders are at fault bought one from there and it got wet tail they made it better and it lived a good long life just bought another and she's doing great super clever too she cleans her own cage and puts it in one corner so we can clean her out lol
