What makes you support a club from nowhere near where you live ? (apart from the obvious)

Hahaha I'm gonna take this as yet another vibeone thread - so thanks.

I follow 2 football teams.

Man Utd because my dad supported them and I just did...
Shrewsbury Town because I was born in Shrewsbury

By the way - 4-3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure you know but our freebie striker scored in the 95th min !!!

#5

#6

It makes me laugh too. i suppose given the higher percentage of United fans in the country, its only fair they also seem to have higher number of idiots claiming to support them. (Even ones that seem to be embarrassed to come clean and admit who they support.)
#8
We're gonna be in the Blue Square Premier next season, but I still will lol.
#9
i support Man utd and Hartlepool.

Man utd because i always have done. and lets face it, Hartlepool wont make it into the prem and it also meant i could join in football convos at school etc.

Hartlepool - local side.

Admittely very rare i go to Manchester.

I don't support my local team. There are a few clubs between where I live and the club I support.
#11
i support man u because they are a dedicated proffessional team who wear their hearts on their shirts
and theyre the best
#12
I too, was born and raised in Manchester where I've lived the majority of my life. I'm also a City fan.
#13
I followed man utd since 1980 as there are no local teams here and my dad got me into them, we go to a few games each season at great expense.

I never get this," you've got to come from the region to support the team" load of rubbish

a lot of teams wouldn't survive without fans from across the country
#14
Lol, lovin some of these comments

You must really hate how your owner wasn't even born in this country then.

Could that make you bitter:?

Support Liverpool and i'm from near Cardiff

My Dad's from liverpool so i was always gonna be a liverpool fan, saw my first game at anfield aged 2

Kinda follow cardiff as they are my local team, but liverpool is in my heart and always will be (get to about 10-12 home games a season and about 5-6 away)

You're right mate, thats why Irish football is dying a terrible death, people would sadly rather take the easy route and supprt a wiining team. Goes against the whole point of local teams really but there you go, each to their own
#20
Born and raised in Manchester, was a season ticket holder when i lived there. Now have moved away with work but still get to see them a dozen or so times a season due to family still having season tickets.

Oh and i support the Champions, Manchester United!!!
#21
It's a family thing, Most my family support Liverpool, I had to be different and I chose to follow in my dad's footsteps and support United.

Also met Sir Bobby Charlton when I was about 7, He sort of made my mind up.

ps, Been to Old Trafford several times, Sadly not as much as I'd like.

Also seen England play at Old Trafford.

Love United, Love Old Trafford.

Do you get the same in Nottingham? Oh your from the wrong side of the river, so theres only one team in Nottingham etc etc.

Also BTW, I'm not actually from anywhere near nottingham really. Closest league side would be Donny Rovers I'd guess.

All the time- not the one team in Nottingham bit but the wrong side, all the time.

I support Shrewsbury Town as they are the nearest league side to me (apart from Hereford united, 2 miles closer). My two nephews are also on the Shrewsbury Town books. The eldest one plays for the reserves and represented Wales under seventeen's in a tournament in Sweden and has 4 caps..

I also support Villa in the premiership because i always have.. :)

Since when has a business man who buys a business need to be local?

You seem confused!

Oh, so it's a business.

SO since when do the employees or customers (whatever you want to equate supporters with) have to be 'local' too?

It's just a trolling thread, but a funny one in it's desperation.
#29
I think these plastics are missing the point of this thread, it is to find out why people support (primarily top four) clubs despite living nowhere near them, it is not to discuss where players/owners come from. We are all fully aware players/owners come from all over the world.

So far, in respose to the question 'do you support your local club' I think we can say the majority are saying 'no'

since when has a fan gotta be local? Where does local stop?

(I'm not arguing with you guv, I'm just pointing the stupidity of this whole thread)

Do you want a medal for supporting your local club or something?

Jealousy is an ugly trait.

HTH.

West Brom fan. Born in Solihull. Moved to Derbyshire and supported Man Utd (still have a soft spot for them). Dad (lifelong West Brom fan) bought me a season ticket for West Brom for a few years and I was turned :)

And you're typing this on your iPhone on the way back from Old Trafford

I'm from Aberdeen and support Aberdeen... And Manchester united. When you've grown up with a team being on tv all the time, it makes it easy to support them. If however they were to play Aberdeen, I would want my local team to win. I suppose alex ferguson has a lot to do with it, and I would wish any team he managed to do well

seemed like it was a go at me but made yourself look a bit stupid, you've done a lot of that today

Starting this thread because your team got stuffed, whoppeee do if you are from manchester, no one cares, as you said yourself teams need supporters from all over the country to survive.

i'm sure if city had won a trophy in the last 33 years they would have got a lot more fans, but one day eh?
