Right then, as it is only 24 days until the 2010 world cup gets under way in South Africa, i thought we might as well have a thread dedicated to the tournament.

Feel free to discuss anything world cup related.

Ballack out of the world cup due to injury picked up in the fa cup final.

Gutted for him really as it will probably be his last chance to captain his country in a world cup.

Cole
Ferdinand
Terry
Johnson
Cole
Lampard
Gerrard

Can Global Domination be mentioned in this football banter thread?? Seeing as it's teams from around the world, surely the winners could stake a claim for that :-D

Ferdinand is a serious doubt what with his back injury problems all season, doubtful he'd be able to play every game required. Joe Cole has been a bit part player all season, hes far more likely to be an impact player off the bench, cant see Cappello starting Milner even though he deserves it. Heskey shouldn't even be in the squad

so you would have Heskey?!
#14
I will possibly be the only Scotsman saying this, but I will be supporting England all the way,as I would with any British team. Cant wait for it to start.

My only concern is that,as usual the tv pundits have already started dismissing englands group games as almost a formality. There are no easy games anymore and it will be tougher than the tv "experts" imagine.

I am certain capello will keep the players focused and not let them be influenced by the press nonsense.

Cant wait for the tournament to start!

Yes, but Armchair fans can call it what they want. And its bull to call it "Champions League", when its played mostly by teams that are champions.

Absolutely, I agree he is rubbish (especially down the Villa) but look at Englands record with him in the team against when he's not. Both Owen and now Rooney reap the rewards when he plays. I don't care if he does nothing and scores none it's the team result that counts. If it means Rooney bags more I'll play him every time.

I still cant believe why brazil never chose ronaldinho and pato. Can they amend the squad?

Ronaldinho really? He's been pants for a long time a pale shadow of a once great footballer

pato seems a strange one though

They had the option to pick 30 (like we did) then narrow it down to 23 but the coach, Dunga, said he is just picking his 23 and then 7 back-ups incase of injury. So he can change his mind if he wants until i think it's 1 June is it? Also, they dont need to be in the 30 to be picked for the 23 man squad that will actually travel to South Africa.
#30
Spain will win it, but I can support Italy and England (grandparents rule). Would love to see England do well but I actually don't think we'll do that well.

Not again http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVM4aKPN7a8&feature=related

Milan scored 60 goals in Serie A.
Ronaldinho scored 12 goals and had 15 assists.

not too shabby imo...:?

neither does "he's been pants for a long time"

but really-i agree - they dont always tell the full story, but they go to show he was instrumental for milan and is far from a bad player.as i said it was my personal opinion, and i think he should be a definite rather than just on standby.

http://www.teamtalk.com/news/2483/6160536/James-Fabio-keep-ing-us-on-our-toes

David James has revealed he 'genuinely doesn't know' where he ranks among the England goalkeepers in Fabio Capello's World Cup squad.

Sold out now as well, which other country would get 90,000 for a Monday night friendly against Mexico?

C'mon England.
