I know theres a few cat lovers on here - your advice is needed!

Im after a few cat toys and wondered what you'd recommend. In my experience most of toys do not interest the cat at all unless you make a LOT of effort with it every time. Im after something the cat will return to on its own and keep it entertained

thanks

Cat nip mouse, but not the supermarket ones they are all show and no spice. I cant remember the name of the one we get at the local pet shop, it doesn't look anything special but it drives my 2 wild.

Will try and find out tomorrow for you.

My cat loves pipe cleaners, ya know the soft bendy things? And he loves that plastic strip stuff that big boxes get sealed with. If I show him a toy mouse he looks at me with a "you're joking right? stupid human" kinda face.

My cat refused to play with the usual cat toys, but leave a paper bag on the floor and he would entertain himself for hours. I'd often find him asleep in it too.

Same here, an open carrier bag on the floor, poke it occasionally with a pen, and my cat's happy. lol

Boxes, all cats have a thing about boxes. I got a big one and poked pipe cleaners through small holes i made, so they dangled inside. my cat loved it

Agree! All my cats love laser pens. We got one from Pets at Home a few weeks ago after our last one broke, and the cats go wild for it.

Also cardboard boxes are a huge hit. Anything with catnip in goes down well.

my cat's a bit strange ...

she responds to those green cable ties. if you twirl it around your finger so it looks like a spring, then toss it in the air she'll chase it and because it rolls and makes a scratchy noise she goes a bit mental with it.

she also sits on pieces of paper, and if there's a cardbaord box i tear holes and make doors, also hand string with dangly things so it becomes a sorta playbox.

i also got her a tent which she loved so i got her two more.

she doesnt chase balls (other than ping pong balls). she hasnt taken a liking to catnip.

if you buy a container, to coax her into it i put her blanket into the space and waited for her to get in herself. no problem taking her to the vet at all, she goes with me in the bus ... sits pretty and quiet.

i guess it depends on the cat and see what material or sound the toy makes. hope that helps.

Well they are not. I got mine from Pets at Home, it is vet approved also.

Maybe it is sold as a laser pen but is actually just a red light? I am not sure, I don't shine it in their eyes anyway!

deffinatly the box and paper. Honestly at christmas in theis house the presses are wasted. The child and the cats play with the packaging. In saying that last year I bough AM some mini powerballs (got about 12 of em for £1 from the wollies worth it range) HOURS of fun has been had in this house with those

i did wonder if it was the bleach or washing coz my cat jumps into the empty bath and rolls around like a play kitten after it's just been washed a few hours before ...

my cat likes jumping in the bath after I have been in....I thought it was because it would still be warm.
#25
so bella, your cat jumps (or should i say dive into the water?). could it be the rubber ducks bobbing up and down?

when i bring my cat into the bathroom when we're having a bath she starts cleaning herself LOL.

I hope someone is going to buy you a nice cat based pressie for xmas :)

goodnight.
#33
hehe bella. i already planned my cat's xmas. tree is going up at the weekend for cat to nibble on, firstly.
#34
Doesn't matter what toy you buy.....just get some powdered cat nip (Pet Shop or large supermarket - comes in the same container as white pepper etc) and then sprinkle the cat nip on it........she/he will LOVE it!!!

Also good on the back of your hand - if you're brave enough!!

some people say it's like ... weed for cats.

All of my cats have different tastes in toys.

My first cat liked cardboard boxes and newspaper. She would sit inside a box or under a newspaper for hours watching us and waiting for someone to play with her with a pen or toy. Anything that entered her hide away was confiscated. She ignored most toys and hated toy balls with bells inside.

Another cat loved playing with balls, ping pong balls being her favourite. She was also potty about balloons and after a party she was not content until every balloon had been chased and burst. Then she looked for more.

Our present cats ignore most toys but do show some interest in those containing catnip or toy mouse on a string.

One prefers chasing leaves around the garden and the other is too much of a lap cat and interested in food to bother with much else. lol
