Lewis Hamilton has had his Belgian Grand Prix victory overturned by the stewards, handing the win to title rival Felipe Massa, who finished second on the road.

Hamilton was given a 25-second penalty for cutting the Bus Stop chicane during his wheel-to-wheel battle for the lead with Kimi Raikkonen during the closing laps.

With 25 seconds added to his race time, Hamilton has dropped to third in the classification behind BMW Saubers Nick Heidfeld.

The decision brings about a four-point swing in Massa's favour in the championship standings, reducing Hamilton's lead from eight to four points.

More to follow

Absolutely gob smacked at this decision, disgusting.

Oh grow up. If you don't want things spoilt then dont come on forums that discuss real world stuff.
#6
i dont understand why its a spolier if its freely on the internet and on the news
#7
To be honest I wouldn't usually even bother telling people it contains spoilers, if they don't want to know something then go and sit in a dark room not on the bloody internet.
banned#8
you serious?
i did think when he cut that corner, he gained an advantage, by being up raikonnen's **** more than he should be.

Surely it couldn't be put in the second post if sassie had posted the second post asking for it to be in the second post?!

Grow up. The only daft people here are those who read great big red text saying "contains spoilers about today's race" yet decided to continue reading anyway.

Perhaps you should actually switch to the default view and try rereading my post before getting on your high horse.
#17
Who the hell uses classic view and views misc anyway!

All I can say is that it is a real shame because Lewis drove a brilliant race.

I do NOT agree with the others moaning - as JimmyW says his title said it all and you didn't have to open it to read it - it was your choice entirely :whistling:
#19
If all you saw was the race later you'd still see Lewis come first.. this is just an after race announcement.

No the point sassie was making is that if you are on classic view (big box, pic, text) then you see the whole first post without clicking on it.

but he let him take the lead again?? i dont understand this, what did they expect him to do crash into the wall? no matter lewis will come back strong, massa's the only real threat now.

And who did he even gain an advantage over? Massa was out of sight and Raikkonen didn't even finish, crazy decision.

I blame the FIA, the stewards and whoever decided to put a bus stop at a chicane ayway!

I'd say that it's Max Mossley's fault because he's bent, but having seen the recent NOTW coverage I am happy to be wrong and say he's not bent, just immoral, corrupt and slimey.

Totally agree with the rediculousness of a 25 second penalty.

Great driving in trecherous conditions, each driver made serious mistakes and the best man IMHO won. Then didn't.

the rule is clear.
if you gain an advantage by cutting a corner ie. gsin a place or fail to lose a place then a penalty applies, unless (and here is the important part) you immediately allow the overtaken car to pass you. if you do this then no penalty applies.

unless the overtaken car is testarossa red in which case you'll get penalised whether you break the rules or not and he gets away with murder
#26
I think they've proved they will take every available opportunity to penalise Hamilton, or McLaren as the case may be. Driving too slow after qualifying, hitting Kimi, and now this. Of course the former 2 were probably justifiable, this is just ludicrous.

Think the problem is that he didn't give him clear track advantage. Letting him past and dropping straight into his slip stream didn't give Kimi an advantage. If Lewis had left it until after the next corner then he would be fine.

back to this awful decision.........

Both Kimi and Lewis were under investigation.
I suspect Kimi for pushing Lewis off the track, and perhaps for going in to the back of Hamilton - though no action taken on either of those accounts.

Lewis for being pushed off the circuit, and then letting Kimi take back the lead after crossing the finish line - after which Kimi crashes on his accord. So the stewards decide Lewis has gained an advantage and been given a 25 second penalty.

How can that be justified??? Kimi crashed out of the race.... what advantage was there to be had?

Seems to be a lot of favouritisim towards Ferrari lately i.e when the steward penalised Masa last time out, they give him a pitance of a monetry fine...... perhaps that's why they call it F1??
#29
Anyone know how many grid places Kimmmmmmi is going to be demoted for trying to overtake off the circuit in the gravelly bits or for lousy parking?
#30
Does anyone know if McLaren can appeal the decision? Ron Dennis said "Charlie" (I think that was his name?) said Hamilton acted within the rules, and I'm sure someone said the final decision goes through that bloke.

You should always listen to what Charlie says!

AFAIK Charlie Whiting??? is the race director but some bar-stewards have the final say.

Charlie Whiting is the race director.

Ah well, all adds to the fun of F1 :)

I'd be amazed if they didn't take it to the FIA and use Charlie Whiting as evidence. Though yes Lewis him past but failed to give Kimi clear track advantage.

The real reason is that they what to keep it exciting. I bet Mr Ecclestone was involved to keep the viewing figures good!
#35
Oh yeah, thats the one, didn't realise he was the race director. In that case there isn't much hope then as I don't think the race director has any say :(

JimmyW, just so you know and understand Sassie is perfectly correct in what she wrote. Your thread heading was correct but then NO text should have been put in the rest of the OP.
The body of the message should have been put in the 2nd or whatever post.

The reason is that members who are using classic view can see the following:
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f160/ordinaryphotos/threadspoilers.jpg

As I'm sure you'll agree that kind of spoils things for people that are on shift work or for one reason or another haven't been able to watch it and are going to watch it at a later time.

I think you'll find that's the site guidelines but you can always check with one of the mod's if you still don't understand or believe it.

It's always best to be polite and understanding don't you think ??
#37
Ferrari certainly presented some fine evidence http://www.itv-f1.com/pitbabes.aspx?Image=8 :whistling:

The caption couldn't be more fitting.
#38
Surely anyone who has been working shifts or just been out without watching or listening to the news or being in contact with anyone who may tell them the outcome is not going to switch on the internet and look up the misc section of an up-to-the-minute public info and opinion website before watching the recording?

(.... and breathe, sorry for overlong sentence!!!)

I'm fully aware of what the classic view looks like, and as I originally said, the warning "contains spoilers about todays race" is in great big red letters above the main post, you disagree anyone who then decides to read it anyway is a bit daft?
#40
If you see something wrong with a thread why not just report it to a mod, instead of hijaking and ruining a perfectly good discussion?
