I know theres a few people on here who would like to build a career in web development so I thought I'd let you know about a voluntary position that a friend told me about. Good opportunity to build some experience on your CV. Hope it can help someone.
Brighton and Hove LGBT Switchboard was founded in 1975 and has been providing services to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans community in Brighton and beyond ever since. Originally operating as a helpline Switchboard has expanded over the years to include a face-to-face counselling service and to provide diversity, awareness and LGBT affirmative practise training to local organisations.
Our mission is to "listen, support and inform". Whether someone has a straightforward question about the scene, local groups or services for LGBT people or a sexual health enquiry , we aim to answer questions directly, with accurate information or signposting to an organisation that has more specific expertise. Our helpline is available every day from 5pm and our counselling service is available by appointment with a sliding scale of charges to ensure accessibility regardless of income.
We are looking for a volunteer to help us redevelop and maintain our web site. This voluntary opportunity will benefit anyone with the relevant skills and experience but especially those developing their careers in the field of web development. If you can dedicate a few hours a week (from home or our office) and you are respectful of our values as an LGBT organisation then we would like to meet you.
You should have previous experience in web development and the competence to implement our plans for the website. Due to unforeseen circumstances we have lost our IT support and we need advice and guidance on all aspects of web development from a knowledgeable person. You will also need the ability to work independently please email us for application form.
