For Sale: My Three Mobile (3) Phone Contract - 1100 Mix 'n' Match - £19.50pm

Hi

I'm really after a new phone AND a ps3 and at the moment the easiest way for me to do this is to take out another phone contract.

I'm on the 1100 Mix 'n' Match tariff on three and got the deal at the beginning of the year when it was reduced from £30pm to £19.50pm for the length of the contract.

This ISN'T through redemption, they literally charge me only £19.50 per month.

I'm just looking for someone to take over my contract which has 10 months left on it.

I won't charge anyone who wants to take over my contract unless of course you want my phone as well. It's an unlocked LG Viewty and the phone and contract are yours for £60.00 otherwise for the contract on it's own it's free.

It gives you 1100 minutes or txts or a mix of both plus 300 3 to 3 minutes.

I've checked with 3 customer service.

There is an official process to easily transfer the contract into someone else's name, address and bank details.

You're asking someone to take over your contract - what's to stop you cancelling immediately after the sale, or for someone to rack up a giant bill and leave you responsible.
#2
Because you change the details with 3. It will be in the person's name and the payments come out of their bank.
#3
they wont change bank details so ud be relying on them to send you money every month think you should have a think through this
#4
ive tryed to do it for my bro to take it over but they wont
#5
I'm pretty sure they will. I've done some research on the net.
#6
Was this on 3 you tried to do this?
#7
Research on the net isnt enough - you need to ask three.

I am 99.99% positive they wont do this.

Carry on ignoring the people who are trying to help you then... but you could end up in a real mess.

yep i came to the end of my contract after 12 months my bro pays me the money every month for it i asked to change the details to his name and account and was told no as its with me so hes still paying me every month
#10
I'm checking now...
#11
Just checked. They will do it!

Because I've completed at least 4 months of the contract I'm eligible for a transfer.

How it works:

I ring up and ask to do a transfer of my contract and get put through to a special dept. They give me a code and confirm that I want to cancel.

I then give whoever wants to take over the contract that code and they ring the phone number that I'll be given. They then go through the process of registering my contract in their name and their bank account details with 3 customer service.

That's it!
#12
Also just realised that there's 9 months left on the contract, not 10.
#13
Do you any of you folks actually know for sure that you cant transfer a mobile phone contract 100% (phoned up 3 and asked them to confirm?) rather than pollute this persons thread with thoughts, assumptions or experience from other operators?

Personally, I'd jump at the chance of a 10 month contract for this 1100 mix n match for this price if I wasnt already locked into one myself for the next 2 years and if there was an offical 3 transfer process.

But come folks, if theres nothing that can be posted that is backed up by evidence then all your doing is spoiling the persons thread.

The evidence would be general contract law, and personal experience. It is not threadspoiling - should we let the OP do something which could seriously financially harm another HUKD member?

The questions are right to be asked Steven.

If this is the case it's fine to leave open. If you are only transferring the contract for free, this will need moving to the Miscellaneous forum.

Edit: In fact it's best to move it there for discussion at this time.

I agree. But its not the questions I was referring to if you read my thread properly. The OP wants to sell his contract albeit for free in terms of transferring it. And there is no General Contract Law, there are terms and conditions that are subject to offer and acceptance, thats it in a nutshell.

I didnt see any evidence to suggest that the OP's item for sale exposed other people to financial harm. They clearly stated that the contract would be transferred, not just giving someone the sim and hoping that they pay the monies and dont abuse it.

A simple statement of "Anybody considering taking up this transfer should directly contact 3 and enquire as to the procedure, status and any conditions of transferring." Common sense really.

So anyway, is anyone interested? lol
#18
Shouldn't you really be giving the person the phone for free too if they took over your contract? Presumably it came free with your contract..?

I'd agree with that unless you paid money for the phone.
#20
The phones never come free with a contract, you're paying for them every month effectively. I've paid 9 months of the contract which is half of it, so I've effectively paid off half of the phone.

That's why you get better phones with more expensive contracts. Simple really.

Some might disagree with you big time on that. Also the forum rules are that you cant sell anything for more than you paid for it (correct me if I'm wrong here people).

It would be wise to carefully word what your selling on here.

Ok - As far as I understand it the 'free' phones that come bundled with contracts are not actually free. You're basically paying them off every month with your contract.

This can be viewed first hand if you go to the three website and put together a monthly contract bundle. They will charge you, for example, £5 per month for the phone + the cost of the minutes package you select.

The word free is just clever marketing to entice people in, meaning you're not paying for the phone upfront. I've paid 9 months of the contract and so therefore have invested SOME of that money into paying for the 'free' phone that I was sent from 3.

I understand where you're coming from but if you think about it, it makes sense. It wouldn't be cost effective for mobile operators to literally give £300 phones away for nothing.

Another thing I would like to add is that you can't get this contract deal anymore. 1100 mix and match for £19.50pm is a great deal. Therefore, you could think of it as you're paying for the privilege of getting a good contract.

Anyway having said that, I did actually buy my phone. I sold the Nokia 6500 classic that I got at the time and bought an LG Viewty which cost me extra.
#23
Well, anyway, to cut to the chase, will you give me the phone if I take over the contract for you? I might consider it if so. I have 4-5 months left on my current 3 contract so would effectively be double paying for half the period anyway.
#24
I'll have a little think about giving the phone away for nothing as I have a friend who may also be interested. This isn't a no, I'm just weighing up my options and seeing if anyone else would be willing to pay for my phone.

Fair enough. I'm only interested anyway if someone from 3 will phone me to confirm that this can be done, and even then I'd need to double check my contract ending date. I'm pretty sure it's late Feb / early March but may be wrong.

I wouldnt wait til someone calls you as you may get independent 3rd party sellers acting on behalf of 3. I'd call them direct if I were you just to confirm it and hear it from the horses mouth so to speak.
#27
I can't get anyone from 3 to contact you directly as they expect you to know me and ring them to complete the transfer. What you can do is ring them up as you're a 3 customer, and tell them that you're struggling with payments and was wondering how you go about transferring your contract to a friend. They'll then tell you how it's done and so hopefully put your mind at rest.
#28
This would also confirm that it can definitely be done as you and me will have heard the same thing from different CS reps.
#29
I tried to take over my daughters contract which was a half price 300 minutes 1000 txts at £17.50. I was told from three that she could transfer the contract but the half price discount would be removed and the monthly tarrif would be £35.. She only had a couple of months left so I set up a direct debit out of my bank account and left the three account in her name...

Sorry that wouldn't put my mind at rest, and it wouldn't prove anything.

Again, it wouldn't confirm anything. The only way for it to be confirmed is for them to confirm the situation on this actual case, if we were to go ahead - and I'd expect them to contact me as I said. If they weren't willing to do that, then it won't work as I'm not be willing to supply my details - other than my name and 3 telephone number - to a third party.

This is more along the lines of what I'd expect to happen in a case like this. Thanks

cant you log onto your account and change bank details, contact detaile etc that way? I did it with t-mobile years ago and was just about to do the same with an orange contract for my mate.
#32
Liddle ol' me - I think maybe you misunderstood what I was saying. What I meant is for you to contact 3 and just ask them about transferring contracts in general, nothing to do with my contract. Just basically so you can hear it from the horses mouth that they do indeed transfer contracts.

Also, I'm not sure how this actual case would be any different from any other case with 3. You wouldn't be handing your details over willy nilly.

Firstly, they wouldn't give me a transfer code unless my contract was eligible for it. Secondly, you'll be ringing 3 customer service to quote the code, and then they'll take you through all the details including terms and conditions just as they would if you were taking out a new contract. If there's something you don't agree with, then it's your prerogative not to go through with it.

It's all above board, I'm not trying to con anyone, and you'll be speaking to 3 customer service the whole time, not giving your details to me.

Ok, that all makes sense now  Btw, was in no way implying this was a possible con! Wires mixed on both sides here I think :p ). Anyway pm me back to thread if you do think about doing this and I'll look into things my end too and let you know if I'm interested in proceeding.

will the transfer still go thru even if the new person has a poor credit rating?

Good question. Hope you're not implying I have! :w00t:

But seriously, it might not in that case. Presumably they will use the same checks they make with any new customer. Not sure if they would recheck in my case though as I currently have three separate contracts with them. 2 x phones and 1 x usb wireless modem.
#36
I'm going to ring 3 tomorrow to double check everything and make sure you'd still get the discounted monthly tariff and then make a decision.

This is a recipe for disaster - no matter what the three cs reps claim.
