Hiya guys, me and a few lads are off to Marrakech tomorrow night for 5 days and was wondering if there was any tips/advice that anyone could give us.

Like for example, what is a must see/must do, what to look out for, tips, tricks, nightlife places, local customs and senstivity issues, areas to avoid, currency issues or anything alike.

Or you can just share your experiences and photos of your times. Any one had massages out there? I heard they cost £60....are they worth it? Any excursions that are worth taking? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Make sure you go on the train:

Looking at the world through the sunset in your eyes
Traveling the train through clear Moroccan skies
Ducks and pigs and chickens call
Animal carpet wall to wall
American ladies five-foot tall in blue

Sweeping cobwebs from the edges of my mind
Had to get away to see what we could find
Hope the days that lie ahead
Bring us back to where they've led
Listen not to what's been said to you

Wouldn't you know we're riding on the Marrakesh Express
Wouldn't you know we're riding on the Marrakesh Express
They're taking me to Marrakesh
All aboard the train, all aboard the train

I've been saving all my money just to take you there
I smell the garden in your hair

Take the train from Casablanca going south
Blowing smoke rings from the corners of my mouth
Colored cottons hang in the air
Charming cobras in the square
Striped djellebas we can wear at home Well, let me hear you now

Wouldn't you know we're riding on the Marrakesh Express
Wouldn't you know we're riding on the Marrakesh Express
They're taking me to Marrakesh

Wouldn't you know we're riding on the Marrakesh Express
Wouldn't you know we're riding on the Marrakesh Express
They're taking me to Marrakesh
All on board the train, all on board the train
All on board

Every north african country is pushy as hell. You should try the cairo market....

Go to Atlas mountains, do it on your own, not with a tour guide, just get a taxi there. Very scenic, waterfalls etc.

Also go to the market, and eat there if you got the bottle. I did and the food was really good.

You can walk everywhere aswell, so dont bother with taxis, especially with the nice weather :)

Thank you guys, ive heard about jemaa el fanaa place for food, but thought the atlas mountains might be quite far. My friends said they went quadbiking there too, but i they might have got it confused with agadir.

Im just procastinating my packing, flight leaves in less then 12 hours time. The weather should be nice there, and i dont mind the walk..... Already got diaorreah tabs, painkillers, sun block etc lol. Any good places for nightlife? Or massages? I dont want to pay my hotel £60 (from what ive been told), but then again i dont want another guy massaging me either, however weird that sounds. Is the city quite conservative in that respect and would i be over stepping the mark if i asked for a female massuese? Thank you guys for responding, its starting to hit me slowly that im going.

Seriously, what's with the massages?? I hope you're not expecting "extras"!
You can get a massage in this country too, don't need to travel to Marrakech, didn't think it was famous for massages...maybe you can tell me otherwise

hit you that you are going? do you not travel much? are you young n this is your first trip?

atlas mountains are about 2 hours drive from marrakech...we climbed mount toubkal when we were out there but i wouldn't recommended that to anybody lol!!!! one of the hardest things i've ever done. the souks in marrakech are amazing, they expect you to haggle and it can be fun. also try the freshly squeezed orange juice:-)

Hi, no not expecting "extras", but my mates have already told me where to look if i was, and if i was, i wouldnt be satisfied by a mere message with a lil extra it would be full throttle with no curtains drawn. And yes, these massages called hammams are quite popular, and it being done in a foreign country with their own technique is not something that you can get over here.

No, im not usually allowed past the sweetshop. :whistling:

Dude, i dont know about you, but holidays are exciting times, ive not travelled much but not that little either, but i do get butterflies everytime. When you're living a monotonous fast paced life, a little chll out time is something to look forward to, and ill be happy if i still feel this way when im 70.

Hi Angel, would you say its worth going to the atlas? Because from the map, Casablanca also seems 2 hours away and agadir a little more then that. Also someone mentioned earlier to go to the atlas mountains but by urselfs, not with a tour guide, would u also say the same? Would we be able to find the waterfalls etc without assistance?

Only memories I have are that it was nice and warm.

I think it was November 1998.

I remember getting harrassed to buy stuff a lot and we didn't live our hotel complex much.

We used to sunbathe in the lush gardens and I read a book by Lynda la Plante, we met a lovely retired couple from Denton and they were spending their retirement travelling.

I have some nice photographs of my time there.

Have an amazing time and post pictures and your tales of your trip here on your return
