I was a bit miffed today when I walked into Forbidden Planet with a 20% off merchandise voucher - went to the checkout with a board game only to be told "that is not merchandise". When I asked what was I was told "Everything on this floor - but not on the lower level (games/comics)."

It didnt say excluding these on the voucher - just excluding reduced items. I tried to argue but no luck. Isnt that mis-representation of a voucher?

Looking it up in a dictionary it says this (well duh!)

"
merchandise
noun

1. commodity, commodities offered for sale
"

I should have stood my ground but was tired. Not happy with them as I am a regular customer and have just been fobbed off! :(

I guess the voucher is only valid against what they class as merchandise, not the dictionary meaning. I totally understand where you are coming from though.

Its a shame, great shop! Big fan of vinyl toys.

I understand its based on their definition - but they should clarify what merchandise is on the voucher. Also - there is no "merchandise" section on their website!
#3
They have assumed some kind of shared knowledge. Oh well, nothing else you wanted?
#4
Nah - unfortunately not. All overpriced there and only wanted this as it was cheaper than most with the voucher.

Could always try the call to Trading Standards, if there is no mention in the shop or on the voucher printed as to what 'Merchandise' is or isn't, its fair to assume that it is anything within the shop, and therefore mis-representative.
