What is actually wrong with the locking cylinder?

My Octavia had a badly sticking lock (had to unlock through the boot), when the car was in for a service it was bugging the mechanic as it opened all the windows when you tried to use the main lock. He popped over to the Skoda garage who wanted 130 quid for the lock plus 50 quid for each to get them retooled...instead he managed to buy a non working cylinder for a fiver and swapped the bits between them to get mine working which I was very pleased about. If you think you can get away with something similar it might be worth contacting a dismantler as I'm sure they'd have a ready supply of that sort of item that could be modified to sort yours out.

With regards to buying new I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions, when I did have to buy a new item for an older car I usually had to go with the dealer.

thanks for the info, you can swap the parts about with the ford locks but it is quite difficult getting the plastic fan like cover off the top first so a lot eassier to buy new, i definantly want to buy some new ones on line somewhere but as said wanna stay clear of ebay.

Try here. http://www.fordpartsuk.com/partsshop.htm

I used to know loads of suppliers of Escort bits but i've been out of the scene for about a year now.

Personally I would get a lock repair kit and rebuild the original, not as hard as it looks.

Have you got a picture of this clip. It's been about a year since I messed with any locks and my memorys going lol. It may be that you can just take the locks out, soak them in WD40 to clear any crap out and they will work again.
