FORD FIESTA Door Lock Problem

Hi

I have a Ford Fiesta 1998, the drivers door lock is faulty - I can only open the door from the inside.

I believe this is a common fault with my age Fiesta.
Now I would like to get it sorted before it goes in for its MOT in January.

Does anyone have any experience/tips with this issue?

Or is there anybody in or near Wigan that could fix this?

Any help is very much appreciated!

Many thanks

It won't cause an MOT failure.

really? so if the tester put they key in and couldnt open the door it still wouldnt cause a fail?

They don't test the door lock...........MOT is purely for mechanical issues. :)

Erm, not true. If you have a crack in your windscreen, within the direct line of sight of the driver.....guess the rest

i may well take it in for repair, but it will cost nearly 100 for labour and parts etc. was just asking on here first to see if it was an easy job to do myself.

syzable - thanks for the comment. i just thought that if they couldnt open the door from the out side it wud just fail!

cheers guys

I've never had anyone try the door locks on a MOT. lol.

why not just leave the door unlocked when you take it for mot and that way it wont be an issue , not like its gonna get pinched from a garage X)

no we don't test the door lock, but the door has to open from the inside & outside though, so if it wont open, its a fail, infact it wont even get to the testing stage, it becomes a refusal to test.

A proper examination cannot be carried out because any door, tailgate, boot, engine cover, fuel cap or other device designed to be readily opened cannot be readily opened.

well my lock is very intermittent - half the time its works just fine, until i lock it with the key.
So if I can get it to work, dont touch with the key ;-), so when it gets dropped off it will open and work, then this will be fine?

yep, but make sure they know not to use the key to unlock/lock it.Tell them you have left it open because of the problem with the door lock, oh also if you have one of those smelly trees hanging from your mirror, I'd remove it before the test ;)

My other half has the same problem with her drivers door, the lock/key is worn and she has to unlock the car via the passenger door. Its been like this for a while and has never failed an MOT because of it.

Wrong, both doors have to open from the inside and out.

As above take door card off and look whats broken. Take the whole lock and handle off. It will be obvious whats broken. Take down breakers yard do the same to a car there and bobs your uncle. Make sure to grease it up good after. Done mine not a fiesta and forgot to grease. It freezes in winter now.

I had this problem on a ford escort. Ended up taking the locking barrel out of the car took it to a repairs/parts desk at a ford garage. he fixed it in about 20 mins and only charged £12.
