Ford Focus Air Con

Hi,

Wondering if anyone on here could help me.

I have just bought a 56 plate focus and the air con switches itself on automatically when i put the blowers on the screen. I have googled the problem and have found people mentioning that their cars do the same but no one saying if its a fault or just a stupid design idea by ford.

I called the dealer to tell them and they reckon thats just what happends but im not sure if they're trying to save themselves some money fixing the problem.

Would really appreciate it if anyone knows the answer. Also if it is a built in thing does anyone know why on earth you would want it to do that???

Thanks in advance!!

Have you got climate control?

A lot of cars switch the air con on when the blowers are blowing on the windscreen. It makes the screen clear quicker. I have a Hyundai and it does it.

I've had three Ford Focuses, and they've all done this. You can easily turn the aircon off again.

Hi Fairysel, if you look at the three controls for the heater you will see that two of them have an 'orange' selection which are full heat and directed to windscreen. When these positions are selected it is deemed that your windscreen is misted up and the best way to remove moisture from your car is to bring the air con on. If you do not wish this to happen simply turn either control away from the 'orange' position. Hope this helps

Same on my Mondeo, Air con is always on when blower set to windscreen, can't be turned off (by design, it's not a fault, guess the same for yours)

Same on my Accord - it's a default to clear the screen more quickly - agree it's a pain.

Thanks for the help everyone!! Its just a pain in the bum turning it off as dont want to waste fuel but agree its probably doing me a favour in terms of keeping the air con tip top. Cheers x

This is a GOOD thing. Air con is dry air, so when directed at the screen it helps it clear a lot quicker. Once the screen is clear, turn the aircon off, or put the fans to screen and feet. My car does it too, and it's extremely useful.

As has been said, it also keeps the air con system in working condition, by using it now and again, as well as assisting in clearing the screen.

As above, and from someone who's had their air con go twice for not switching it on in the winter, I'm now glad that I'm an owner of a focus cmax that puts it on automatically!!!
