It locks fine when I lock it manually.

Any ideas anyone?

is your boot shut properly?
#2
You tried another key? Your fob could be dodgy or perhaps the solenoid or lock is faulty. Try unlocking from another door, If it still unlocks then I'd guess your fob is dodgy.

I can't lock my car manually from the passenger side, but when I lock my door manually from the driver side, both doors lock.

I don't understand how it could be m fob, when I press the lock button it locks and then un locks (I hear the mechanisms going)

Gonna double check...

If you walk away from the car without locking the doors. ... do they lock automatically after a while?
It might be worth trying this to see it locks/unlocks without using the key fob.. then you'll know its not the fob playing up :|
#9
i had problems with mine today, it wouldn,t unlock with both key fobs..
my drivers door hasn,t got a keyhole on it but passenger side has, but only unlocks that door..

oooo confusing!! :|

Don't know, lol. Haven't tested it being in the area I am, lol

I will test that out during the day. But why would it lock and then unlock if its the fob? its making a connection with the car unless it has crosswired somehow ith the unlock button

My mum's Citroen had a similar problem, When you locked it, it'd lock and then unlock, Central locking not via remote, Only way you could lock it was by locking front doors from inside and then the rear doors, Anyway the problem was a couple of wires had snapped on drivers door, Rewired them job done.

Possibly a broken wire but could also be something to do with the remote locking control module.

Hopefully just a door not shut properly, Perhaps one of the door sensors aren't working?.

sounds like a Focus problem... ours does the same. works sometimes then other times just doesn't wanna work!
#16
Ours did the same towards the end of us having it was a 51 plate.

Well as I say I can lock it manually, and both doors lock (its a 3 door) but with the keyfob it locks and then unlocks.

I'm actually a trainee electrician, but car electrics are a whole different kettle of fish (different coloured wires, relays everywhere for different things) its an absolute maze!

Was just giving some pointers, My Ford Galaxy key was faulty, Recently replaced that and now my remote locking works a dream even though Fraud dealers reckoned they'd have to code it for me for the sum of £80+ Lol, Just kept my old immob chip and blade and swapped them over coded the new remote myself as instructed in manual job done. The transponder had gone on the old fob, it'd light up etc..

As for your fob, I'd guess it should be ok however when you press the lock button may be it's catching the unlock on the circuit board in the fob? Stranger things have happened.

It'll probably be something simple, Hope you manage to sort it out.

Helpfull.

We have a focus here, ive noticed a few problems with the locking on it.

Try to press the lock button twice see if that makes any difference, for ours to be fully locked it has to be pressed twice.
Check the batteries in the key aswell ?

That about the ford dealers doesn't surprise me. If your key stops communicating with the central locking system for want £70 to reprogramme it... or you can follow a step by step on google which takes an awful long time... well about 10 seconds, lol

I'll take it apart tomorrow, have a look. thanks mate

What you are talking about is pressing it twice dead locks it and sets the alarm. With mine I press it once and it locks and then unlocks a second later.

Thanks anyway :)

Sorry hope it gets fixed cheaply anyways

I haven't opened my bonnet for about 5 weeks, after I last changed my oil and it has only started playing up about 2 days ago.

I open my bonnet with a key as well, so its not like I opened it my accident.

thanks though

Hmm, I will look but can't see that being the problem.

I have worked out my it is locking and unlocking

What is happening is I am pressing lock on my fob, the passenger side is locking but then it senses that the drivers side did not lock and unlocks itself again.

But I don't know if its the catch in the door itself, a sensor that locks the door or a valve in the lock mechanism. I'm guessing that both doors are on the same sensor which is why the passenger door will not stay locked itself, So I can probably narrow it down to a faulty catch.

Is there any specialist mechanics that deal with this side of cars reading this that can confirm my theory before I buy a new catch? (probably not but you never know) :|

Glad youve narrowed it down so far, im guessing all the fuses were okay? if its just a sensor then it shouldnt be much to fix. Could try get onto one of the many focus forums, see if anyone can help, might just need a wee bit of hooky software to sort it.

Also ive heard to reset the ECU to take on the settings that you want all you need to do is disconnect the battery for an hour and that might reset the ECU to think the sensors fine and then it might work properly, just a sly wee fix ive used with a sensor before . . .

Cheers for the update, best of luck with the fix

Disconnecting the battery to reset the ecu won't reset anything I don't want resetting will it?

Thanks Danny, appreciate the help so far :)

Dont think it would reset stuff that you dont want it to.

On second thought it might reset the radio channels ? but they take 2 minutes to store do they not ?

No problem mate
1 Like #39
make sure you have your radio code, as it will probably lock the radio if you disconnect the battery.

I know mate, I had to change my battery a few weeks ago and I forgot about that. And I tried loads of different codes and it was two tries away from being permanently locked out and I found a little audio guide with my radio serial number and unlock code.

It was a really obscure number and I would never have guessed it, lol

Cheers man :)
