Found a lump and doctors can't fit me in for 2 weeks

Hi
After some advice really, firstly please don't come out with the whole why are you asking on here rubbish, im asking because someone might have an answer.
ive found a lump in my breast, its been painful for a while and ive checked it and found the lump, but my doctors surgery can't fit me in for 2 weeks, they can give me an emergency appointment but they can't make any referrals in that so id have to make a 'proper' appointment (2 weeks)
Im really worried about waiting that long, any ideas on who else i could see? Or do I just have to wait?
thanks in advance for any advice

this is rubbish - keep on, with this there should be a 2 week window to be seen - speaking from quite recent experience

I would go to my local walk in centre or A&E.

Nothing worse than worry.

Also maybe change you doctor's to one that hasn't got as many patients.

Hope you are ok x x

cant you ring first thing in the morning and see someone? As for 'cant make referrals', rubbish! go, if they are worried they WILL make the referral. The best of luck to you

absolutely do NOT take no for an answer. My mum had breast cancer 7 years ago and the lumps can grow/spread very fast. She had an op within 3 weeks of her discovering the lump and it had already grown lots.

go to the hospital

I would go see the emergency doc to see what they have to say or do you have any walk in health centres nearby ? Dont need an appointment for them, heres a link http://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/AboutNHSservices/Emergencyandurgentcareservices/pages/Walk-incentresSummary.aspx

Head to your local NHS walk in centre, although make sure you get one that has doctors and isn't nurse led if you can. If not then have a phone around some other GPs and explain that you need an appt urgently and your Gp can't fit you in for a fortnight. I have had a similar problem when my GP was busy and I soon got an appt elsewhere. Really, there isno need to wait. Go to the walk in centre as no.1 choice- they're open all hours so you could go now. Good luck xx

We haven't got a walk in centre, I guess a&e but they aren't exactly the nicest bunch there and they'll probably tell me to just see my GP.
And I can get an emergency appointment but they wont do referrals in that appoinment (i have cysts on my ovaries and having a lot of pain and they told me i had to make a 'proper' appointment)

I would change my doctor.
#15
Im going to make an emergency appointment anyway but just wondered if they make me wait what else i could do. Do you think its worth while with an out of hours doctor?
#16
Your GP practice doesn't sound very helpful or accommodating. I wonder if you can change to a new one?
There must be a walk-in centre somewhere near you, even if not in your town or wherever you live. Could you find your nearest one?

Out of hours are pretty extinct in my area but we do have lots of walk-in centres.

My doctor's is also open until 8pm today x x

Oh id love to change my doctor they are flipping useless! They only do emergency appointments between 8 - 10 am so if something happens after then its tough! But they are the only one we're in the catchment area for
#19
I'm not sure that an out of hours doc will come unless you phyically are too sick to get to practice, if you see what I mean. You could give it a try but I'm not confident they will do anything.

Where do you live is it in the middle of nowhere?

ive just gone on the NHS site and arranged a call back from NHS direct, hopefully they might have some ideas too.

Just want to say thank you to you all for your advice, im such a wimp and so flipping scared, but its probably nothing
#25
just go to the emergency app, they HAVE to do something about it, they will not send you away telling you to simply get a proper app

I bet it is lovely.

All the best and don't forget to let us know you are ok x x

Oh I see what you mean; where we are out of hours doc= home visit; the alternative is going to the hospital or walk in centre. If you have one you can get to then I would definitely go, yes.

I will do :) thank you xx

If it's any comfort, the vast majority of breast lumps are not malignant, so try not to worry yourself sick over it. Chances are, it's a cyst.
Still, best to get it checked asap.
#32
i get the emergency appointemnet and they will reffer if they are concerned with it if not demand one dont be scared to make demands after all its your health all the best
#33
Good luck; once the NHS system kicks in it is pretty good so you should be ok, but I know from experience that the waiting and worrying is awful. If you get a referral these happen quickly too. Take care xx

I would agree with this, if it's painful or causing discomfort, it's not likely to be anything sinister (my doc told me that). Well done you though, for checking and following through.

Ok What About Hospital
#37
I had the same recently and when i got to my docs appointment he wouldnt even examine me as he needed a nurse present to examine me and there wasnt one available. I had to come back the next week and then was referred to the breast clinic at the hospital which took another couple of weeks. Turned out to be a cyst but didnt stop me worrying! Good luck hun x
#38
You have rights to demand a referal even from a emegency appointment. The NHS standard state that a gp can be done for neglegence if they fail to refer you to a specialist and you then suffer because of this.

Don't be fobbed off.

Just stating this to your Doctor will scare him enough into action as all NHS staff are on tenderhooks due to the fact they can loose there jobs and pin numbers and be sued.
#39
Does the hospital at KL have out of hours doctors in A+E , the ones round here do, you just drop in and they will see you , go late at night and they probably see you straight away
