Frankie boyle-is this a step too far?

Before I went to a gig last night-popped into the tv studios to see frankie recording some material for his new channel 4 show "tramodol nights"-its a mixture of stand up and sketches.

To be honest, although I think he is funny, some of the sketches are extremely lame-but he has a running sketch theme throughout the series where famous people are being given errm "hand relief" by others-i.e. wonderwoman/superman.

The final scene of the final show will have a sketch where jesus is on the cross and to relieve his suffering the disciples have a whip round and hire a prostitute to give him aforementioned relief.

I can just imagine the furore when the tabloids see this one! Like I said,Ive always liked his stand up,but I reckon this may be a step too far,and lets be honest-he knows it.The audience seemed very uneasy with that scene-not a single laugh that I could detect.

Offensive or funny?

It will be ok........only targeted Christians/Catholics. Unlikely to be met with a rucksack wearing fanatic.

Well, his comedy genre is offensive really, so I don't know why people go and then complain of being offended.Be it 100's of topics that may be close to ones heart, religion, gender, sexuality, children, weight, ethnicity, rape, disability. He has attacked them all, that's what he does.

I wasnt offended-that wasnt my point-I have seen his stand up shows and I know exactly what he is like, but with this,to me its like he has deliberately sat down and thought "whats the most offensive sketch I could possibly write"-nothing to do with the comedy value or otherwise, looks to me like this is just done to cause a storm of protest-just my opinion tho.

There was a thread about him and his tasteless jokes few months back.

Thing is most know what to expect I reckon - Barky I am more gobsmacked at your fantastic social life you know! Must have the best one on here!!

It's not that bad I hear he's doing Mohamed next week.

Frankie Boyle's comedy is a bit near the knuckle?!?

Frankly I'm shocked as I thought he was a wholesome family entertainer. I think I'll go have a sit down and alternate between reading the Daily Mail and shaking my fist at the BBC on TV.

lol sounds pretty funny. You know what you're gonna get with Frankie Boyle.

Personally i think taking the mick out of kids with downs syndrome is offensive but few others tend to agree........if he held up a cartoon of the prophet mohammed however i am sure he would have all the nutters threatening to kill him in a heartbeat and would be universally condemned

I made my decision regarding FB after going to see one of his 'shows': He's a very poor comedian who should be sent to the Chubby Brown retirement home for the criminally offensive.

Next week he's burning some Korans.

(I actually don't care about either)

I don't understand people who complain about comedians etc being offensive - just don't watch shows they appear on if you don't want to hear their material!

Btw realise that is not the point you were making OP, just a general comment from me while we are in a similar subject area.

I'm more offended by the Wonder Woman/Superman hook-up. It's derivative and old. People worked out years ago that they would be compatible sexual partners because of the shotgun-like power of his ejaculation.

Frankie Boyle loves to offend, it's his job. He does it well. WOW he's attacking religion now? No Really? Easy topic, he's scraping the barrel there like, but hey he's still funny.
When it comes to taking the pee out of religion I prefer the subtle, very smart humour of Graham Lineham, a la Father ted, comedy gold!

He's not attacking religion at all. From reading the OP all he's done is making a joke with religious characters as the subject. That's vastly different.

Likewise, Father Ted never took the mickey out of Catholicism, the characters just happened to be Catholic.

Quite the opposite!

I think it's neither funny or offensive

Maybe a bit off topic, but I have noticed a couple of people/trolls making snide comments about Muslims (again).

If you two really didn't know that Muslims believe Jesus existed too then that just goes to show how ignorant and uninformed you are oO
Maybe you need to do some research so at least you can post some educated remarks

I treat Muslims with the same contempt and distaste as I do Christians, and indeed any religion.
