Franz Beckenbauer-"England are stupid not to have won their group"

Why doesnt this man just shut up? keeps harping on about how there isnt a serious rivalry between Germany and England, but cant help himself from having snide digs at every opportunity.

He has had his time,he has no relevance anymore except in his own befuddled mind, just constantly attempts to grab headlines by spouting his football "wisdom".

We will see who is stupid on sunday afternoon eh?

have never self spammed a thread-EVER-I leave that to the people who run and hide as soon as their numerous lies are exposed:whistling:

what episode of lost was it you were in again?

He is likely being asked questions on the subject and not simply making comments out of the blue. If the media didn't ask questions regarding the English team he would probably not comment. I think its rather the media attempting to grab headlines rather than the man himself.

It seems strange that when he was saying good things about England you weren't up in arms, over reacting.

Just posted this as well.

The man is such an idiot. It is not as if Germany have done well themselves so far...

Completely agree - I'm sure if they asked "did England play crap against Agleria?" and he agreed (as would 99% of us) the headlines would be "Beckenbaur thinks England players are crap"....

But, England are stupid not to have won their group. USA, Algeria and Slovenia - hardly 'mountains to climb', are they?

And now that they've beaten Slovenia 1-0 (thanks to a scuffed ricochet off Jermaine Defoe) the party is back on and everything is forgiven.

They look like a side that is too afraid to lose rather than a team that want to win. This mentality needs to change. The Premier League is to blame in my opinion, it has become so global that the eyes of the world are on England and the pressure has been magnified. Greed wins.

No doubt the german press have statements from the england camp saying that germany play crap football and are losers etc.

It's the usual press stirring up news and inciting hatred to sell papers:x
#8
haha if england are stupid for not winning their group then Germany are stupid for winning theirs as their route to the final will as hard as englands now!! bye bye GERMANY
#9
strange comment for him to make, he knows that there is no such thing as an easy fixture in international football. Plus England are yet to lose a game at this world cup whereas Germany have so it is debatable which team has performed better
#10
I don't agree with the comment about the USA being a weak side, how many teams went through the tournement unbeaten?

Personally I have been impressed with them and think their qualification was justified given the descisions given in the Slovenia game.

I expect them to beat Ghana and go into the quarter finals.

As for England v Germany it doesn't really matter who you meet in the next round you're going to have to beat the big boys at some point.

Part of me would rather win the cup having beaten Germany, Argentina and Brazil rather than Ghana, Paraguay and Spain.

He claims that the England players look tired as they play more games than their German counterparts. I wonder if it would help if the England squad (at the start of the season) were not allowed to play in domestic cup competitions during world cup year, giving them around 10 games less that season to play.
#11
I totally disagree with the double winning world cup winner, it wasn't stupidity that caused them not to win their group it was rank mediocrity.

You haven't been watching the pundits very much, with the plethora of snide remarks towards the Germans at every opportunity - have you?

I take it you weren't listening to the commentary of Clive Tyldesley during the Germany game then?

Reference to the War just slipped in there.
#14
He's a typical arrogant German, The type we defeated in the war.

Hope we beat them on the pitch.
#15
I agree that not winning the group was a big mistake.

The likely route to the final, providing the expected teams win is Germany, Argentina and then Spain, with Brazil the finalists

Take that to the other side of the draw, Ghana, Uruguay, USA etc.

Which one would you prefer?

Yes, to win the tournament you have to beat some good teams, but not usually ALL the good teams.

Things like that stick - tell you what, we'll forget the war if you guys can get over the 3 centuries of oppression.

Deal?

I have to admit Slovenia had no game strategy. It was like watching a team of first match 6-8 year old kids on the pitch kick and run.

England could only manage 1 goal. Do you really think we have a chance of beating Germany?

Germany were beat in the group, although admittedly having a man sent off. There is a possibility of beating Germany, but even if they do, they are going to struggle massively against Argentina, they have a vast array of attacking talent.

Why would I discuss football with a Scot - that would just be cruel.

It'd be like asking Heather Mills if she wants a race.

You have to get around the fact that England are no where near as skillfull as Spain, Germany, Argentina and Brazil but what we lack in skill we (on our day) more than make up for it in pace, power, strength and determination.

Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea and Fulham etc could never be described as the most skillfull teams in Europe yet we have dominated the last 4 spots in the ECL until this year. Arsenal on the other hand as easily the most skillfull have been the least successful.

We can beat Germany, Argentina, Spain and Brazil but we need to be at the very top of our game, something we are not far from IMO. Apart from possibly 86 against Argentina (when they were simply awsome) none of the big 4 or 5 have give us a good beating.
#22
Hate to admit it, but I also wish that he would keep his comments to himself. If Germany do beat England, then his comments will be justified - but if germany looses, you will look like a prat.

Franz, as a German fan - please dont say anything just yet - let the ITV crew make pointless and silly remarks

Have you been watching Germany? They hardly look like world beaters, we were unlucky not to score a few more against Slovenia mostly due to the fact they have an ace keeper.
If the same England team turns up that played Slovenia I know we'll beat Germany, I just hope the players dont switch off & instead step things up another notch.

I don't think you've been watching germany, they battered australia, hit the woodwork and missed a penalty against serbia with 10 men and comfortably beat the best african team in the competition.:?

If the same england team turns up that played against slovenia then all the head first last ditch lunges in the world from john terry will not stop the germans and in particular klose.

Slovenia are no mugs & Germany still lost to Serbia, I'm more worried what England team will turn up than how Germany play tbh.
Btw I've watched nearly all the games.

They lost Serbia for one reason; they had a man sent off (who in most peoples opinion shouldn't have been), and still dominated the match.
If you put Engerrrland in exactly the same match against Serbia, and had their only designated striker (on the pitch at the time) sent off, I think most people would have been pretty impressed if England had played as well as the German team did.

A bit unkind. But not in this instance.

Anyway Franz is just repeating what I said 5 minutes after the result and saw what in meant in terms of the likely path.

To progress, it looks like after Germany, it would be Argentina, Spain, then Brazil in the final.

The other side of the draw, would have been Ghana, followed by probably South Korea. No disrespect to Ghana and South Korea, but on paper they are far weaker than the Germans, Argentina and Spain.

I hate stastistics, England haven't beaten a seeded team in the knockout stages since 66 and Germany have qualified further every time since 66 too!

Damn you number crunchers, this Sunday everything will change.

So what happened in 67 when a nation with a 10th the population of England were able to mock the "World Cup" team by playing keepie up with the ball?

Unfortunately that game is never shown on British TV - I wonder why?
