Ok Mums and Dads - the summer holidays are here and I'm sure it won't be long before we hear those dreaded words................. we're bored! So I thought I would start a thread where people can add ideas of things to do for free with your kids.

I am planning on having lots of ideas on pieces of paper and during a bored moment we can pick an idea out of the hat that we have to do. Here's my ideas so far

Wash the car
Hide and Seek
Clean the bathroom (I'm sure the kids will love it)
Treaure Hunt
Cooking
Sticking
Play a board Game
Make a puppet show
Gardening
Bug Hunt
Playdough
go to the park
Pavement chalking

Please Please feel free to add lots more.

I just spent the afternoon at a * picnic* which my son prepared me and his nanny.
We had deck chairs, table and he uses the plastic plates etc to serve us.... wait for it...
A snack a jack, an orange and a cup of water!

Must say he LOVED doing this... and of course we did too

A gentle water fight in the garden is good if the weather is hot, a few plastic bottles with a hole in the lid..........Got to let the kids win though!!!!

Check with your local council, most have some sort of club or activity during the holidays.

just as an example, this is what my area has to offer... http://www.southlanarkshire.gov.uk/portal/page/portal/EXTERNAL_WEBSITE_DEVELOPMENT/SLC_ONLINE_HOME/SLC_WHATS_ON/EVENTS_FULL_LISTING

Always my favourite, ideal age 3 upwards.

What age kids need amusing?

My daughter used to do "art attacks" with the dirty washing, arrange it on the floor into person shapes....kept her amused for ages and I must admit some of the things she did were really groovy for a 4 year old :-D

"Tents" is another goodie for the younger ones, drape a sheet over a suitable frame, we used to use the clothes airer and put some toys and stuff inside :-D
#14
Easter egg type hunt, hide goodies around the hose and leave them to find it :-D

I've been buying a few toys and things in the Tesco sale so that I have a bag of things for really desperate moments!!! One of the great things I found was a bubble catcher (2 in a box for £2)!. You blow bubbles and this divice counts how many you pop.

So bubble blowing can be added to the list

Kite flying
Bike riding
making cocktails (use lots of different fruit juices) (some coctail umberellas help as well!
Making a play (write the script/design the costumes ets
Making pictures with leaves etc that are found in the garden
Flower pressing

pavement chalking, one of my old favourite pastimes. I seem to remember some nutty council stepped in last year over this because of complaints from residents! What with a ban on ice-cream vans from sounding their bells, I just don't know what sort of childhood kids are expected to have these days..... nice post. x

baking cakes or cookies, my boys love doing this as they have fun making then eating
#20
How about playing shoe shops - gather all the shoes, measure feet etc
or hair dressers with brushes and bobbles etc - NO SCISSORS IN SIGHT PLEASE!
or libraries

Just thought of another great activity. Cornflower and water. Have you tried this. It is amazing stuff. it looks runny but you can pick it up in handfulls and then it runs through your fingers. Keeps kids amused for hours.
