If you're on Windows 7 or Vista it has a built in firewall. And MSE includes anit mal/spyware. You don't need anything else.

This is the way Microsoft are going.

Take more and more OUT of basic Windows, and make all these free "features" (Windows live, MSE etc) only available to those running genuine Windows.

Plus don't forget, they did get into trouble with various legal authorities for bundling too much. This way, if it's optional it gives the user the choice, whether they're informed users or not.
MS cannot win either way. Bundle and they upset the competition, don't bundle and folks cannot cope with choice.
Never did i ever think i'd post anywhere, a pro MS post :(

Microsoft security essentials, already had this thread like two days ago.

I use MSE, much better than AVG which I used previously.

I've got Microsoft Security Essentials on this Windows 7 laptop. On my PC which I've not got online at moment, which is XP I used to use AVG and never had any problems with it.

As Boydent put rightly, it's because of competitors complaining they had a monopoly (screw what consumers wanted). If MS could they would have everything you would ever need built into windows but their competitors will moan and sue.

And why shouldn't these features be available to owners of full legit copies of Windows? Their development costs money so why give it away free to those who either use hacked copies of windows or don't use windows.

I moved away from AVG about a year ago, I had been using it for about 7 or 8 years. The newer version was seriously slowing down my PC, no such problems with MSE.
