Free/ budget things to do in London at night

I'm treating myself to a trip to london next week and naturally booked the cheapest bus tickets, which gives me not the best timings. My departure, for example, is at 11.30pm, so I'm looking for free/budget stuff to do after 6pm.

As you know most museums and galleries close at 5.30ish so I can't go there anymore. And I'm not too keen on having a walk on historical areas ect as I'm alone and you know how dangerous london can get at night. Pubs are also a no-go for the same reason.

I'm thinking I'll probably watch some free street performances near the theatres but I'll probably get tired of that after an hour.

So, any suggestions?

river thames?

get the river bus along the thames - but make sure you check the timings for coming back - if you can get an oyster card before hand use that because the river bus cost is then half the price

Yea but if you fancy a bloke but have to catch a bus back home in an hour it's not that good, lol.

Movies are out too.. can do them anywhere, not just London. Seems a bit waste of time to watch movies in london when I can do it back home..

Can anyone suggest some stuff like.. go walk around busy spots and collect as many freebies handed to you (which I just thought of and going to do, bless me :D). something cheap and along that line.

last time i visited that s***hole it cost money to use the "public" lav's, so i don't think there'll be much you would be able to do on a budget..................
take some sandwiches and pop and have yourself a picnic nr towerbridge?

There you go,
have a picnic, take a dump or wee in a pub, this is virtually free stuff to do in london.

Kind a reinforces my earlier point about london being a s***hole doesn't it :p:w00t:

What's your budget in total?

The kind of things I would recommend you can do on your own is checkout Winter Wonderland and walk around Hyde Park (london's biggest park) and make sure you checkout Dianas memorial but it'll be dark by then.
There's Trafalgar Square, which should have a huge christmas tree donated by Norway for the help provided during World War 2 and Oxford Street is nearby, which is famous for shopping and take advantage of the sales and enjoy the lights. :p

There's the London Eye, which is about £13 if you book from the right places and you can book tickets for Comedy clubs starting from £3.

There's a lot more but I'm not exactly sure what you're interested in. :)

Hope that helps.

if you like vintage shopping and curry, then you should go brick lane during the day. i reckon it's best around lunch time on a sunday.

a trip to harrods for some cheese and bacon bread £1.95, really yummy when warm and fresh, and you will be in the warm

Wow apologies I thought this thread was dead yesterday! Tate museum is a good idea, I'll go check that out!

Budget is as little as possible. In spirit of HUKD and moneysavingexpert :)
