Free channels on $ky???

I've persuaded my Dad to cancel his £45 a month $ky subscription - to possibly resubscribe with a free $ky+ box when they decide to play ball!

Anyway, its now been switched off.

Does anyone know where there is a complete list of channels he should still be able to receive? I was expecting him to still be able to get all the channel 4 stuff (ie E4, Film 4 etc) and other freeview channels such as Dave.
- but he doesn't!

He can get all the ITV and BBC channels and surprisingly $ky3 (which is obviously free on freeview - but didnt expect it to be free through a $ky box!

Or anyone just got a non subscription $ky box that can check the E4 etc channels?

Cheers

Yeh, cheers - just found this out. Weird that this is the case though! (Particularly when Film 4 really was a subscription channel - and the others are freeview non subscription!)

Think this will be sorted soon though when freesat is launched.

It's because channel 4have a contract with sky to encrypt their channels up until sometime later this year. This mainly so they receive subscription revenue for the channels and so people in other countries can't receive the channel as this is would go against the rights they pay. Hopefully later this year when BBC and ITV lauch their freesat platform Channel 4 will not renew the contract and become free.

The full sky package is open to everyone until the end of January matey, so long as they currently subscribe to basic pack!

Using a freeview box you would get all these channels but not using a sky box - I see sky actually put different free to air channels in thier different packages, so some packages have some free chennels and some have others but none have all unless its the expensive package.

This is of coarse is insane as they are free to air, so thier various packages should have all free to air channels included but they dont (con artists).

Whilst you would be a mug to pay £150 - when you can find these offers for £75 and 6 months 2 mixes thrown in, why would you expect them to install and give you a receiver for nothing? Ive not heard anyone being given a freeview box and someone come round and fit an aerial for nothing!

I wouldnt expect them to do it for nothing!!! but to compete, you have to make competative offer - when you can pick up a freeview box for £20, offering exactly the same free to air channels for £150 is not exactly going to draw the punters in is it

but as I pointed to you earlier he could just get the card for £20 as all the equipment is still fitted in his home ( Im presuming here you havent removed it) he would get all free channels

And once again you have ignored the bigger picture. My Dad is not in a good reception area - and even though I am OK, the cost of an aerial and install is considerably more than this price from sky. And further to that, ignore the fact that you can get a package for £75 that includes subscription for 6 months. Know anywhere that will install and supply aerial for £55 and give you 6 months free topup TV?

The post explains his subscription has just been terminated and explains the channels he can now get. Should be pretty obvious he still has the viewing card!

It isn't a rights thing. C4 did a deal where sky would waive the EPG listing fees to be part of the sub package. The contract ends in March and they will be FTA from then.
