Free Deed Poll - change your name for free

If you need to change your name, maybe because you've just got married, you'll need a deed poll certifivate to show banks, passport office and others.

There are a lot of sites out there that will charge you a fee up to £50 for something that can be done for free. The most important thing being the wording and getting the form signed by a witness. It really shouldn't cost you anything.

Visit: http://www.freedeedpoll.co.uk - Fill in the form and you'll get a free certificate for you to print out.

I can confirm these work as a valid proof idea, ive changed my name a few times in the past (just because I can and for the hell of it), Ive been Jack Daniels, Hugh Jass, Johnny Walker, Harley Davidson, its great when you pay by debit card and they see your name on it! Although I have had a couple of occasions where they thought they was fake/cloned cards!

If you are printing them out go to your local £1 shop as they do some parchment type paper 20 sheets for a quid which make them look better!

I had this done about 2 years ago and you can have anyone witness it. Just downloaded and printed a similar copy for free. However, just to be sure I took it into my local solicitors office to have it witnessed and one of the legal chap signed it for £5 cash in hand!!

Passport Office accepted it with no problems whatsoever, and once I got the passport used that as proof although you do need to keep this bit of paper especially for the banks to have your details changed.

It is no hassle whatsoever.

Sorry not Hugh Jass it was Hugh Jarse ive just found my bank card from that one at the back of a drawer!
I remember being at the doctors waiting for my appointment when the tannoy crackled into life "can Hugh Jarse please see Dr Kelman in room 1" went in to find the doctor doubled up laughin after cottoning on to what she had said!

I heard its not needed in Scotland at all only England and Wales.

In Scotland you just tell everyone your new name like the bank and they have to changeit

Yep just checked and in Scotland it looks like you dont need a deed poll but you can only change name a few times.

But the pay deed poll sites of course dont tell you that and twist the wording to say that deed polls are legal in Scotland and accepted but dont tell you, that you wont need one!
