Not necessarily a HUKD, its more of an European entitlement.

Not to be used to replace Travel Insurance

'If you are a UK resident, you are entitled to medical treatment that becomes necessary, at reduced cost or sometimes free, when temporarily visiting a European Union (EU) country, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland. Only treatment provided under the state scheme is covered. However, to obtain treatment you will need to take a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) with you. Please note: Not all UK residents are covered in Denmark, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland. Click on the 'Access to Healthcare Abroad' link below, if you are unsure whether you are covered.'

There is potentially a travel insurance provider that provides travel insurance, in conjunction with you using this card too, as seen on monesavingexpert, though just having looked, I can't see it.

It's a good deal to remind everyone to use one of these cards when they go to Europe - thanks!

How can a freebie get voted cold?

Does it offer an item or service at a beneficial rate? Yes, it's FREE so it must be a good deal!!!!!!
Does it apply to all? Yes, any UK national can get free healthcare either in the UK or EU.
Is it soemthing everyone needs? Yes, unless you're dead.

...retards!

Enjoying the irony of someone calling others "retards" whilst making a typo, THEN not even editing it but making a whole new post.

Voted cold, this isn't a HUKD.

Yeah, I did try editing. Unfortunately the javascript wasn't running on my particular choice of browser, so it had to be a new post. I was reluctant to do it but felt it was the only option I had otherwise some RETARD would come along and poke fun at a simple typo which would unfortunately detract from and dilute the original message.

When I left the original message, this excellent item had been voted down to -6 degrees, hence the post.

But, I reluctantly suppose, only a RETARD would deliberately vote down free (at the point of care, anyway) healthcare.....oO

I think this is just a reminder for those who travel, do not leave home without it.
Some insurances are void if you do not have this with you as they will not pay out more than necessary and many things are covered by this.
Its just a short form to fill in with your NI number or your NHS number and it will wing its way in a couple of days.
Also don't forget that they expire (I think) every five years so make sure yours is valid.

No, it won't pay out for lost cases or missed connection but if you are rushed off by ambulance it will, and if you have to go to a local doc in any EU country it will.

Should be in Freebies
