Many thanks. I love my digital camera but I am not that good at taking pics.

With the recent explosion in digital cameras, I am amazed that there are no digital camera courses available in my city. I have picked up a lot of advice along the way but I know I can make things a lot easier for myself, if only I knew how easier editing storing etc.

But, I know loads of people who have bought expensive digital cameras and NEVER edit any pics, just get them printed!! I just don't see the point.

Have a look at Picasa if you haven't already. It's free and certainly makes my life a lot easier :)

There's another programme I use in conjunction with Picasa which is ACDSee. ACDsee also embeds itself into Windows (XP, don't know about Vista) and is great for simple editing on the fly.
I'm still using an old free version of ACDSee and I know sometimes it appears on the front of computer and photo mags, otherwise I'm afraid it costs:

Hope that helps :)

Brother in Law was just asking me about the best "top of the range" digital camera...he never goes near a computer and is worse than I am taking pics. At least I try. He is your typical LOADSAMONEY sort of guy, just wants the best even though he won't be able (and has no intention) of using 1/4 of the facilities a good camera might offer. He can't even take a normal shot without it being on an angle. I despair!!

Why do you have to edit pictures? Depending on the shot and how well it was taken in the first place I have printed many jpegs straight out of camera or with minimal corrective work.

I seem to remember Olympus had a good online photography course I saw linked somewhere, I'll see if I can find it.

You would be surprised what you can get out of a photo with a simple histogram tweak :)

I know full well what I can get out of a picture with quick work (hence the minimal corrective work comment) but I don't see post processing as a requirement of a digital camera which is why I found the comment odd.

My pics are mainly family and kids shots. I am amazed at how many people have a digital camera and then show you pics of their kids, with 2 huge red eyes on them. Why pay to get that printed?

For skilled photographers, I am sure they put much more thought into the pic before taking it and so might not have much editing. For amateurs like me, simple editing is a godsend because that pimple or red eye can really spoil a great pic.

My point is that Iam surprised how many people don't or can't edit and just print pics off regardless of what they look like.

Red eye is simple to stop, and everyone can put a little thought into taking pictures, I know plenty of 'skilled' photographers that rely on post processing because they are too lazy to re-learn about digital (if they've come from film cameras) or believe everything that the digital PR machine puts out.

'Editing' has a broad spectrum, if you want details on any particular problem be more specific.
