just wondering as have some stuff to sell which i was going to put in the local rag but dont want to put my personal mobile number in as i did once before and got calls at silly oclock and for months after! so was thinking about using an old phone and simcard,do you have to top up a "free" simcard before it will accept an incoming call?

Not a clearcut answer but I guess you would have to top up for most. SIM packs I've received with PAYG phones usually are activated with a nil balance and can recieve calls with them. Others that I've received free online usually have to be activated by topping up before making and receiving calls.

you could always try that freebie that was listed on here a few weeks ago where you could request a free sim and then activate it online and receive £5 credit free.

or get your hands on a 3 sim as I think most, if not all of these are already configured to receive calls.
