I know most manufacturers have been doing this deal since about November and I recently purchased an Acer Laptop which qualified for the deal. I was just wondering if any one has claimed their copy and how swift delivery was, seeing as their charging 15 quid for it. Just want to hear about different peoples experiences

On another note is it legal to buy a copy of vista or office and install it on two separate machines, ie my laptop and my desktop.

Thanks

I bought a new PC with th Vista upgrade option too.
I registered on Packard Bell site, paid my £11, and got an email back straight away to say that my order had been placed.
That was 2 weeks ago...this morning I received another email to say that I would receive my upgrade in 4-6 weeks....
I don't want to install it yet anyway...there still seem to be a few bugs around.

You can only use the copy on one machine, as it has a unique number, as far as I know.

I got a new Toshiba and applied for the upgrade thru moduslink or some-like and I am still waiting. I was told 6-10 weeks or something. When I check their website, my order has not advanced and they don't reply either.

The only note of glimmer I found was in one of the trade sections that said modus are doing this on behalf of MS and what they are doing is collating all the changes/fixes per OEM and then producing a disc that will go straight into your PC ans sort everything out for you from the start. Sounds plausible but some news would help. Not Happy :x

Cheers for the info
looks like Media Centre will have to do for now...

What i meant about two installations was if i bought a copy of office from the shops like. Not the upgrade.

Got a HP Laptop in November, registered for Upgrade and had an email advising they have received registration and copy of receipt email regarding the upgrade and it will be looked at but they did not expect so many registrations for it, so are falling behind...

That email was about a month ago, still not heard anything since.

I received another email yesterday saying that my order had been processed and to expect the dics within 1-3 weeks.

hey mate did u have to fax them your receipt or anything?

cause it seems like i missed this step that other Acer upgraders had to do.

I sent the order by entering dat ont he website and in the first email they sent they said that I had to return the receipt to them via fax or mail.

As they didnt have an address in the UK, I used the nearest, which was in Holland!

I took a photocopy of my receipt and sent that though, as I never like to send originals if I can help it.

Will keep you posted when I receive the disc.

I have a Packard Bell Computer, not sure if every manufacturer uses the same system.

okay mate appreciated

I had no confirmation e-mail and I couldn' make head nor tail using their online order tracking system as to whether they had received my receipt. I dropped them an email and they replied within a day, so pretty good. Looks like all is well.... touch wood.

I have received my Vista Upgrade today.

There are 2 discs with it, both have Packard Bell on them.
I don't intend to upgrade my computer just yet though, until I find a suitable Firewall to use.

I have also ordered the upgrade for my son's laptop, which is a Toshiba...so see how long that one takes!

I also bought an Acer laptop in Jan 07 and got the 'free' upgrade (ie £15!)

Placed my order at start of March with Moduslink also, and did ok i think....but I mailed them as I thought it was taking a while for a response on their website update of progress.

Anyway, got a mail yesterday saying same as Crazy1...within 3 wks...will let you know.....

Placed my order for a HP Vista Upgrade via Moduslink in late Jan.

Sent off my receipt the same day. My order stayed as awaiting validation of proof of purchase for 5 weeks. I called them twice in this time and they said if I had sent it then it would be validated at the time payment was processed and then be sent out - within 4 to 6 weeks from the order date.

After 6 weeks got an email saying Validation was complete and the order would be shipped within 4 to 6 weeks!!! i.e. up to 12 weeks in total.

I emailed them (and HP) and moaned. Particularly annoyed when one of their emails had the line 'please be patient' in it! Be patient when they are taking twice their advertised processing time!

I noticed that they changed their phone service so there was no longer an option to speak to someone, only recorded messages!

Anyway after several emails got an email saying it had been shipped and should be with me within 3 weeks! 3 weeks, is this hand delivery or what?

If you do a search for 'moduslink vista upgrade delays' you will find thousands of posts complaining about this company who were given the contract by Microsoft to handle all upgrades.

Guess what arrived this morning??

My Vista upgrade

Did it come by recorded delivery or courier? - NO

Did it come from the good old US of A? - NO

Did it come from Europe? - NO

It came from flaming Uxbridge in Middlesex, so why the big delivery charge?

I don't think it can be used on different machines, as it is model/manufacturer specific.

Ah well something to do over the loooong weekend :whistling:
