  I believe the Humax FOXSAT-HDR are the best ones, pricey though.

  Is there still no way (hack) of using the record / storage function of the HD + Box without having to pay the 10 quid p/m ?

  Surely ,with FreeSat your going to get the same channels as Freeview ?
  For a complete change in channels get a European satbox . I've always had the foreign channels with a Humax ,then a Technomate and now the Spiderbox.
  No films interrupted with adverts every 10 mins or so and all the footy you can watch .

  B+Q do a ROSS one for about 90, its nowhere near as good as humax, but its not exactly bad

  I was going to change to a Freesat HD box but didn't want to pay £200+
  Decided to stay with the Sky HD box and pay £10 a month for Sky+, so in 20 months it will have been the same as buying a new Freesat HD box but I don't have the hassle of changing, in 20 months time I can then decide what to do again, also don't have to race through watching all the crap we've just recorded on the Sky box!
  
  Currently I also have the standard Sky package in that £10 a month due to a 6 month half price promotion so not that bad.
  Bad thing with Freesat is the lack of HD packages, there are many more free HD channels on Sky than Freesat!
